300d timing chain supplier

Post by lockiedog »

Back in 2010 I replaced the timing chain (IWIS), tensioner and tensioner guide rail (Febi) on my 1979 240d and my 84 300d with parts supplied from MB spares. My 1976 300d is now due and I am having a little trouble sourcing parts locally. All the major euro parts suppliers (HSY, imparts, unique auto parts etc) can no longer supply, stealership are obviously very expensive and also can no longer supply the tensioner guide rail, three point classic are expensive and can't supply the tensioner guide rail. So I am now looking further a field at US suppliers like "Mercedes source" and "pelican parts". Here are links to pelican parts website, the prices are the best I can find for the brands (IWIS, Febi) I ideally want to use,

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/ ... VSVSI=.htm

So is this the only way to go now or is there a local supplier that I don't know about?

Back in 2010 I used a ball peen hammer to peen over the joining link but I would still like the proper riveting/crimping tool. Has anyone bought one and can vouch for the quality of the tool and quality of the "crimp" left? I have read in another thread on this forum of someone renting one but ideally I would like to buy my own and don't mind paying good money for a quality tool. I have seen a few for sale like this one,

Now that MB Spares is regretfully out of the parts action, have you tried these independents:
Silver Star Spares in Kingsgrove NSW,
or
MB Classic Parts in Greenacre NSW
