w123 correct boot carpet and rubber matt order

Post by lockiedog » Tue 04 Sep, 2018 5:34 pm

The Mercedes Benz club of Queensland's concourse is coming up this Sunday 09/09/18 and I am taking along three of my w123's and entering two for judging. One thing I'm not 100% sure on is the boot carpet and rubber Matt.

Did all w123's sedan's have both of them or was the rubber matt an option for those who wanted to protect the carpet if carrying "dirty objects"?

If all w123's sedan's had both carpet and rubber matt in which order did they rest in the boot?

Attached are some photo's of what I am talking about from my project car,

I think John is the one to talk to. He works for parts section at the mercedes stealership in the valley ( brisbane ) From what i've been told in passing, he's one of the last old mechanics who worked on the w123 back in the day left in qld.

I was of the understanding that it was one or the other (carpet or rubber mat), depending on the year, model and/or country of origin.
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

'83 W123 300D 325000km (Wife's car Josephine - sold).
'84 W123 300D replaced good OM617 912 with OM617 952 and enjoyed having good acceleration for the first time since first driving a 300D in 2002 - became engine and trans donor for 300CD Turbodiesel conversion. Now parted out.
'86 W124 300D sold (Wife's old car - sold )
'85 W123 300CD, 275 000km (Fatmobile) rebuilt turbodiesel from previous Fatmobile transplanted into 280CE (SOLD)
'99 W202 C250 Turbodiesel (my darling Wife's car - Sold)

Correct, I would have to look it up to be sure, but basically the early and lower spec cars had the rubber mat and the later and higher spec car had the carpet. In the end I think they all had the carpet mat

what year is your 300D that you are going to enter?

Great thanks for the info guys it all makes sense now. My 1979 240d had the rubber mat (with carpet on top that someone over the years must have added) and the 1984 300d just had the carpet I entered them both in for judging and had my 1976 300d on display also. We got very lucky with the weather was raining all day Saturday then fined up, there was a great turn out of 200 plus Mercedes including a gullwing, grosser, 6 g's, 4 mog's a pullman and heaps more.
