Engine Question

Post by Ninny659 » Thu 11 Jan, 2018 9:27 pm

Hi, this might be a silly question but I'm new to rebuilding Mercs, and I was just wondering what this dark yellow cylinder is for? I own a W123 300D and was just hoping someone could help me.
The yellow cylinder I'm curious about is circled in blue. If anyone has any helpful tips for a beginner, please let me know 👍🏽.

Matheuisella, that is because the post had not been approved yet. Try now.

Ninny659. That is the reservoir for the Self leveling suspension.
It should have fluid in it and the rear of the vehicle should sit at the same height with or without a load in the back.
If it is not working properly, you may have a really "bouncy" rear end, sagging rear end, and/or oil leaks from the hydraulic cylinders or control valve.
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

'84 W123 300D replaced good OM617 912 with OM617 952 and enjoyed having good acceleration for the first time since first driving a 300D in 2002 - became engine and trans donor for 300CD Turbodiesel conversion. Now parted out.
