Half Shafts

Post by leoramon1952 » Sat 04 Nov, 2017 7:20 am

Hi all, I have come to the point where i need new half shafts for my 1983 230E, has anyone
had this done? i am in sydney and none of the local mechanics near home seem interested
i know it won't be cheap but the old girl deserves them as she has served me well, just
need to know how much the shafts would cost, where to get them and the cost of fitting
them. hope someone can help, thanks

BTW,

If your driveshafts need doing, then so do your rear wheel bearings and the diff side seals & o-rings, and diff mounts. Also often overlooked are handbrake cables and shoes.

They mostly die from lack of lubrication - broken CV boots, dust and crud.

Quite right AMG, the Forum sponsor is a good place to start looking for parts - I only mentioned John at Greenacre because its Sidoney and a helluva lot closer than Canbraaaa, and he can very likely do the work or suggest someone closer to Leo.

I'm about to replaceone of my 1985 230E's half shafts (the cheapskate way, only the crook one, and with a visit to the wrecker for a repkcement shaft).

There are one good lllustrated step by step posts in peachparts and Benzworld that detail the process.
