300D 240D engine mounts

Post by mathuisella » Sun 20 Aug, 2017 11:33 pm

Good evening everyone, just wanted to ask a probably silly question.

he engine mounts on my 240D need replacing as they've callapsed. Would it be better to put 300D engine mounts on if they fit with the 240D if they're more dense, wider or just better wearing ?

July 1980 240D ( older style 240D engine, not post 6/80 as they used existing stock for my car's engine )

I do not see why they would be different between the OM616 and OM617 engines.
They would fit regardless.
Not a major difference, about 20% less weight in the 4 cyl compared to the 5 cyl engines.
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

:) there was a place on the gold coast with " new old stock" still in wrapping OEM

" Mercedes-Benz Meyle (OE Quality) W123 300D Engine Mount A1232413013 "

:) made them an offer of $25 each ( from their price of 35 each) + shipping, taking a chance they're still good and not 1970's/1980's stock that have age-hardened :)

Let's see how i go.

Not that it matters but there is or was once upon a time different grades of rubber for the mounts so might be some variations in part numbers.

Highly recommend Lemforder mounts which are OEM. I had cheapos (Febi?) and calling them crap is an understatement

How did you go with the Meyle engine mounts Mathuisella?

I have been on the hunt on and off for good engine mounts for the past tens years and yet to find them.

Like seventyeight said there definitely was or still is different grades of rubber from some manufactures. In about 2008 when I first went to replace my mounts on my 240d I went and got a set from imparts Febi Brand (ordered from my Vin for a 240d) I put them in and they were that soft that the heat shield on top of the engine mount would hit the chassis and would send bad vibrations right through the car. I took them out and went back to imparts and they handed over 300d grade ones and said to try them, when I had them side by side on the counter both being brand new I could physically compress the 240d ones much easily then I could the 300d mounts even though they physically looked identical. I put the 300d engine mounts in and they worked but still not as smooth as I hoped and thought they should be.

I then rang up and got a price and availability from Mercedes Benz Brisbane (roughly $330 each) the man at spares parts wanted to know if it was a 240d or 300d and if it had air con etc because they were also all different grades, he even gave me the option to get two drivers side mounts as he said they were also different grades (from passenger to drivers) as the drivers side being the heaviest duty to take the bulk of the load when accelerating engine speed twists the motor to the drivers side. I couldn't justify paying that money so just kept the ones from imparts and learnt to live with it.

A few months ago I went to replace my engine mounts on my 300d so I ordered a set of corteco mounts from Mb spares which they just had the one grade across the board I put them in and the engine vibrated more then it did with the 20 year old 205000km old ones. All the mounts I have bought over the years have always been physically the same size, when I took the 20 year old mounts out of my 300d I noticed they were physically a lot bigger then the new corteco mounts. I have attached photos that show the difference in size. The big 20 year old mounts were replaced by my father in 1998 and have a mercedes benz part number on them so assuming they were genuine.

If anyone has some leads on a supplier of good solid mounts similar to the big one in the picture I would like to hear if not it might have to be from the stealership....

Thanks for the detailed explaination. I too put new mounts in the 300TD and wasn't really that happy with the result.

Will look around.

Don't bother with stealership ones. Lemforder is the exact same thing with the MB star sanded off. (well at least one version of OEM...)

Now as for part #, mine I think are 123-241-30-13. But they're not fat like your old ones are. There's a possibility yours have swollen over time (fuel or oil spilt on them?). Or perhaps your old ones might be of a superceded part #?

Not that I was ever really considering buying them from the stealership but I would be very interested to see the size of the ones they supply.

I’m not 100% sure what the part number is but I’ll have a look next time I’m in the shed.

I know they are old etc but they are definitely of a heavier construction even the metal base is bigger in comparison to the corteco, febi branded ones.

As for the lemforder mounts can I ask who supplies them please? eBay? Sounds like they are next on the list.

I bought some mounts, but have yet to install them on my 300D as they seem quite good on this car. very little movement when the engine torques over with accelleration.

+1 that. I bought these

Not sure if the height difference is a collapsed mount, an el cheapo or for the wrong engine.

Anyway, very smooth idle + acceleration.

The mounts i bought are sitting on the bookshelf in their packaging, as the 300D i now have has decent mounts. So i guess they'll be useful in about 10 years :)

I ordered and fitted a set of the Lemforder engine mounts (off ebay), they are fantastic and feel right for once. That good I have just ordered another two sets for my other cars. I have tried and used several other brands and these are the only ones I would use, if you have Febi, corteco etc mounts in your car do yourself a favour and change them it makes such a deference.

Another example is 6 months ago when I replaced the engine mounts on my 1984 300d with Corteco ones they where that inferior the sump hit the sump guard and I had to remove it (sent vibrations right through the car) now with the Lemforder mounts I got a solid 10-12mm of clearance with the sump guard fitted.
