Spare Parts Older Models

Post by mydave1910 » Fri 15 Jul, 2016 11:10 am

I have been led to believe there is a very good source of parts in of all places BYRON BAY. The person involved is named Florian (?) and his premises are in the BYRON BAY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX>

Any leads appreciated.

I used to know Florian from the days when I lived up there, but no longer have his contact details.
He used to work for Joe Ingliss at Prestige Motors, also located in the Byron Industrial estate, if that helps to track him down ?

BTW having seen the number of European cars that existed in Byron back in 2002 to 2007(and often scrapped due to the salt environment/owner neglect), yes there was indeed a lots of spares...

Hi mydave1910 ,

You might possibly be referring to Florian Beck in Byron as he is big time into mercedes.

He also does handmade jewellery and you can reach him via his facebook site.

Hi Dave,
I googled Florian Beck and that's a different Florian from the one I knew, so try calling both places as if it's the same (blond) dude I knew, I'm sure Joe at Prestige Motors would pass on his details (or even be able to source what you need directly)

Having had the pleasure of purchasing an item I needed from our esteemed Forumsponsor today, not only did MB Spares remove a stater motor from a car for me, but dispatched it within a couple of hours.... (beware guys, some clown in Melbourne rebuilt mine only 14 months/24k Klms ago and put the brushes in incorrectly.....fried starter and solenoid, $450 down the loo, :banghead: but serves me right for using someone conveniently close to my work, rather than someone I know and trust).....John Green to the rescue yet again :notworthy:

Good luck in your search !

About a year ago there was a huge ebay presence by someone from Byron bay selling off heaps of spares and spare part cars.

Had a brief chat with Florian the other day seemed a nice chap ..would loved to have talked longer but is a very busy man. his Merc interests are anything pre 1995..asked him to join the site so I hope he does
Seems he may have bought all the Byron Bay Ebay listings Ivanerrol mentioned and wants to save what Benzes he can in his area from going to the car crusher.

The Florian mentioned by merc-304 is Florian Dittrich. He owns Resurrection Benz in the Byron Bay industrial estate. I've just returned from a visit there; he's been my mechanic for a couple of years.

He took over most of the stock that was listed in that Gumtree advert a couple of years ago, from a Mullumbimby chap called Al Conway. He later acquired my considerable collection of parts and panels, a couple of my cars, and my 7,000 pages of printed workshop manuals.

Florian is a bit of a maverick, a very competent mechanic (trained years ago under Joe Inglis at Byron Prestige Motors when Joe was my mechanic), and is a good all-round bloke. Half German and half Dutch, with a touch of Virgo, he has the right temperament for maintaining our old Benzes: a stubborn perfectionist. He will persist until he gets it right.

And he has a yard packed full of spare-parts Benzes.

He would rather be grease-monkeying than yakking all day on the phone – which is why, he told me this morning, he doesn't join the forums. He doesn't want to spend much time just chatting with enthusiasts when there's work to be done (which is always – he's also a workaholic!). He even lives on the premises in a big Sprinter! He doesn't do computers or internet much, and has no landline phone – just mobile.

I've been encouraging Florian to make room in his yard for more cars. He has too much 1980–1995 stock, especially W124s and W201s (and the occasional W140). He has authorised me to "speak" here on his behalf, and so I do. If anyone within easy reach of Byron Bay is seeking parts for that era – 1980–1995 – you may contact me via a PM here and I'll pass on any messages. Any parts would most likely be a Saturday-morning pickup job for the buyer.

This is not intended as competition for MB Spares, whom I continue to patronise as I have for decades; it's just that Florian needs more space. These parts cars probably won't last long.

Thanks for the update Gordon, sounds like a slim chance but does he have any Finnie parts?

I also know of someone locally who has been trying to track down a later 240D engine or a spare 240D crank - any chance he might have one?

That's odd! I posted a reply to this a moment ago but it's disappeared! Gremlins in the pipe, no doubt!

Finnie bits: no. Florian was sorry not to have acquired my Finnie, which now lives down Sydney way (1965 220 S).

240D: I'll call him tonight and ask. Any idea what year is needed?

Cheers
