1981 230e valve cover removal

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of doing some work on my 230e and one of those little things is a new rocker cover gasket. I have throttle linkage mounted to the top of the valve cover, and can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it to get the cover off. There are two rubber bushings which look like they should come off, but are either stuck from age and heat, or not meant to move. I've attached a picture of the situation. Any ideas?

That rubber support screws in. There's a threaded shaft on each end of the support rubber. They're glued on.
Unfortunately the rubber is so old it goes hard, so trying to remove the rubber support will most likely result in breaking it.
They are not expensive.

sometimes the glue wears off, I have successfully salvaged some in one piece from m102 engines from 230e's and 190's (190 is more common to find) from pickapart joints using multigrips, well worth having some spares, as yes, they are nutso exy new

If you are talking about the rubber block with metal plates and threaded sections at each end, they are readily available on ebay for next to nothing.
The accelerator cable attachment is not even on the top thread and the whole thing could be replaced by a suitable bolt (probably an M6), unless there is something which uses the shock isolated top bolt.
