True Cold Air Intake For M116

Post by Greg in Oz » Thu 28 Jun, 2007 9:37 am

Have a look at http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/s ... p?t=119144 for a worthwhile modification I made to my 350SLC some time back. We often hear of so-called "cold air intakes" which are simply pod filters drawing hot air from within the engine bay (often on cars which originally had true cold air intakes). This is a true cold air intake for a car that previously did not have one. Later model MBs from around the mid 1980s had a similar setup as standard.

Can also be done simply and effectively on a w108/9 3.5 and it makes a big difference.

See

Not as neat as Greg's modification but apart from cutting the airintake horn it takes no other work.

No discernible difference that I could notice to the induction noise - but it does reduce rich running and ensures that the engine is sucking in cooler, denser air - I reckon it also makes an improvement to the power, but have not had it objectively tested.
