HELP:Disconnecting centre dash console

Post by will323 » Fri 03 Nov, 2017 1:53 pm

Hi All,
I'm replacing the heater core in my 190e 2.6 and the journey has been pretty good until I got stuck disconnecting the centre dash console. I cant seem to figure out how to disconnect the wires/cables that are connected to the knobs on the console. I have attached some photos. I've seen some posts with pictures of this done successfully so any help would be much appreciated. Any other general advice would be great as well. Thanks guys!

Try removing the heater knobs, then unscrew the nuts on the control shafts. This should allow you to remove them from the console.

Then once you've done that, you can commence removing the entire dash, by removing the steering column trim, steering wheel, and centre HVAC vents.

undo the speaker grilles, remove the bolts.

remove the cross-brace from the a-pillars, which holds basically the entire dash unit, and that will leave the heater unit sitting neatly ready for you to remove.

Pull out the carpets before you soak them in coolant ;)

Thanks for all your help. The centre console is actually the last thing I have to remove before I get to the heater core. Fingers crossed 😓

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your previous advice. It worked a treat and now I am so close to removing the heater box but I have another problem which I hope you guys can help me with. Most of the information I am getting are from US sites and its not as helpful as i thought it would be as their car instrument panels are different, for example they do not have twist dials like our models do. I can not remove the heater box as the white thing (see pics below) has cords that are connected to the heater box and I don't know how to disconnect it so i can get the box out. Let me know what you experts think I should do. I'm actually thinking about replacing the heating core while the heater box is still in the car. Anyway let me know what you think and let me know if you need more info or pics. Thanks everyone!
