You can rent lots of vehicles with a towbar for 2800 - 3000 dollars.

And then at resale time for your C180K, prospective buyers wont turn their nose up when seeing a tow hitch on your car.

SEDAN and WAGON C200/C180

What you have been quoted is complete garbage if you DO NOT have the coupe (I have a 2006 W203 180K coupe - more on that later).

Mercedes sell (this is list) a towbar for $380 plus about $150 for bits and pieces. The wiring harness is $480 (a local guy here in Canberra can wire for $150) then whatever the fitting is. I know, I've was talking with them Friday 8/1/10 - Capital Star Motor here in Canberra. This is for the W203 Sedan and Wagon MY2006 and they are in-stock here. Local guy allupo fitted cost including HIS wiring harness, $600ish IF you have the coupe this towbar will not fit.

Third party tow bar guys have quoted me $1,500 for the wiring harness, I think there is a bit of a con going on here.

COUPE

I'd be interested to hear from anyone with details of a towbar for the W203 coupe. There is an MB one (these prices are what I can remember, I binned the notes when I added it up) , but there is the towbar $450, a strengthening panel/bar $580, wiring harness $550 other bits $200 and fitting. Price installed in excess of $2,000. Supposedly these are Hayman Rees, but their people will not know about them - there is a separate department that handles OEM builds.

My local guy reckons the strengthening bit is a con, just bad design. He thinks, and we are exploring this rather than a custom build, he can modify, install and wire the C200 sedan towbar all up for around $800ish.

If you want to talk towbars with Capital Star ask for Jose in spare parts, he has just done the homework.

Cheers,
Kevin

Evening Gents,

I also have a 2006 Mercedes C200 diesel, [W203 Coupe] and would like to fit a tow bar so that I can tow the jet ski. So far every place I have called has not got a part.

I would like to keep my shirt so have avoided the local Benz stealership.

Has anyone got a contact in the Melbourne area?

Not in Melbourne, but perhaps this company could point a direction?

I have been contemplating having one installed for some time, but with only 1.8L it struggles to pull it's own weight sometimes...

Give these guys a go. They have a range of W203 towbars and ship in 5-7 days and have OEM electrics if you require them. http://etowbars.com/au/Towbars/Mercedes ... rrency=AUD
