E230 wont start

Post by davidn » Sat 16 Feb, 2008 5:22 pm

1996 model
unlock car using remote, green light flashes on rear vision mirror (normal), turn on ignition and red and green lights on rear vision mirror just start flashing continually, engine will turn over but not start. lock and unlock car 50 times trying to start each between each attempt, eventually it will start. if i turn the key really quickly it will start before what ever is the problem resets and wont allow it to.

any advice would be appreciated.

secondly. i live on sydney's north side and work near manly. anyone know a merc mechanic. i've been taking it to my rangie mechanic but i should track down a merc nurd.

Not as simple as just an immobiliser playing up?

I personally don't know any 'decent' merc mechanics on the north-side. (have no need to use a nthside mech at all)

My mechanic friend is still in Brisbane, and I've known him for 15 years. Thats a bit too far north for you. :)

You could just drive to Canberra and let John's boys fix your issue :)

The only 'local' guy I know worth his salt, Ron, worked for Stan Kass, (who sold said business) and now works for Autohaus one, but he is reputedly moving to the caringbah workshop to take over from the current ill-diciplined crew. He despises 'modern' MB's (post 1996 seems to be his pet hate, due to the 'plasticity') however he'll work on them regardless of personal preference.

This is music to my ears... but not to someone on the north side.

I did once go to a bloke off victoria rd drummoyne, He seemed okay. I never got him to do anything major. Just an oil change. This was before I had tools brought down from qld and then found mechanics closer to home.

Some of the guys here may know good places on the north shore, or you can ask other MBCNSW members for a personal recommendation. Most are happy to mention good service or mechanics. Do not ever discuss price. Price is something you have to justify to yourself.

We're not really in a position to make a recommendation as a forum. Personal experiences of one person may not be the same for others. Most of us are happy with our own choice, and won't object to sharing information on mechanics etc... but it should be always taken with a grain of salt. How you get on with someone elses mechanic-friend may very well be quite different.
And their price may be reflected accordingly.
