Engine longevity.

Post by newMercowner69 »

Wagner (my C200/W202 T Elegance wagon),
Has now done an original 202900 kms since new. How long interms of either kms&or years has he left before either timing chain, or re-ringing or recoed engine is needed?,
I service him twice a year with an "A" &"B" service with only GENUINE O. E. M. filters &quality oil,
Should I continue to use full synthetic oil?.

I ran my C200 on synthetic. The stealership used Mobil 1 synthetic before me (stamped service book)

I sold the car at 260K's. Engine sounded and went sweet as - you could hardly hear it ticking over. New owner did a compression test - very good all cylinders.

Nephews C180 went to 380K's before failed cat and transmission issues rendered the car uneconomical to fix. He parked it for 8 months in his front yard. Someone knocked on the door and paid him $500.00 for it.

The M111 engine is one of the better efforts from the MB engine design department. So long as you keep changing the oil and keep an eye out for coolant leaks it will do 500000kms no problem. The only real issue these had was a very slow coolant leak from the back of the head, you can see it a snot trail running down over the top of the gearbox on some of the worst examples.

My sisters old car (written off in a hail story), had this issue big time. I changed the coolant to the factory stuff and oddly it slowed up quite considerably.
