Run flats vs conventional tyres

Post by prd » Tue 15 Aug, 2017 8:32 pm

Have a W205 C250 that has done 20,000 clicks and needs all 4 tyres replaced - has anyone moved from the RFT to a conventional tyre. Currently is running on front 225/40/19 and rear 255/35/19.

Spare tyre location should be critical in decision making.

If it is not located in the car some place....

There are conventional tyres on my W204 where the originals were RFT.
They seem to run alright. However you have W205.
There are sensors for the ECU programming which monitor the state of the tyres and can read the tyre pressure.
I don't know what affect that will have on your car - it may throw a code.
I have a MB iCarsoft II scanner - I've been trying to find a programme in it that disables the tyre monitor.

On my W204 I removed the conventionals and put non standard wheels and RFT tyres on - it didn't throw a code.

However, the technological upgrades between models and even within models seem to be major.

For your W205, you may need to go to a stealership and hopefully they may give you an answer.
