Does anyone know if the bearing in the idler pulley?deflection idler pulley with cap can be removed(pressed out)?,
If do you replace the complete item?,
Also in my service booklet for above (mine's a 1997 C200 T Elegance) with 5spd auto there's NO mention of a automatic transmission service needed/required is this because they're sealed for life?.
Are you talking about the idler pulley on the tensioner?
The plastic caps pull off. The bearings can be replaced - they do them overseas. However sourcing the proper bearings in Australia is a little difficult.
It maybe just as easy to buy a new pulley they are not that expensive - however overseas the bearings are only a few dollars.
Sealed for life was one of those - "It seems like a good idea at the time" moments.
The transmission should be serviced every 60.000K's. If you want to do the service yourself there are you tube videos.
You MUSTuse the correct transmission fluid. - It's not cheap.
Idler pulley&tensioners are 2 completely different items,
It's the 1st pulley you see in front of the engine/motor when you lift the bonnett if it makes sense?,
I DONT have/own a workshop manual for it so NOT able to provide a pic of one! :(.
