M103 Oil Change Interval

Post by StraightSix » Sun 07 Oct, 2018 9:31 am

Hi all,

I've a stock as a rock W201 2.6 that does only about 3,000 km a year, with about a quarter of a million kms on it. Runs 20w50 mineral oil, which seems fine, even with the wide temperature variations in Canberra. I make sure that every time I drive it that it gets a reasonable run, enough so that oil pressure at idle has dropped.

I'm thinking about changing the oil/filter twice a year. Is this simply OCD and wasteful, or will it make a meaningful difference to engine longevity? It's always fun to bond with the car, but maybe I should find another way?

Thanks,

Andrew

Once a year with good quality oil should be enough. As long as you run it at least weekly.

Thank you. I've just checked the oil and six months in, colour is still good.

BTW, you must be flat out running each of your cars once a week! 😃

You certainly won't be doing the car any harm, with the extra changes. So it it makes you happy then go for it. One added bonus of "bonding with the car" on a more regular basis is that you are more likely to spot small issues before they become big issues. This is especially true of the older cars.
