Gold Coast mechanic for 300td (1980)

Post by janhermann » Mon 02 Jul, 2018 1:56 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows a mechanic on the Gold Coast (preferably Southern) who knows how to keep these old diesels running at a reasonable cost. My default option is Eurotec at West Burleigh, just wanted to see if there were any other suggestions
Thanks

What is wrong with it?
Routine maintenance:
Weekly: check all fluid levels and tyre pressures
5000Km Engine oil changes engine oil filter changes
Once a year replace the coolant, fuel filter change if the engine seems to be struggling at full throttle.
Every second year replace the brake fluid and time to do the PS Pump filter about then too.
20,000km transmission fluid and filter change.

If anything goes wrong, ask here for guidance after searching for the symptoms here

These engines are almost bulletproof. Providing you give them clean air, clean fuel and regular oil changes, they will go for over 500 000km without much attention.
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

Thanks Tony,
There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it (other than a fuel leak in one of the injector return lines that I can fix) but I've only just purchased it and thought I might get someone who knows them to give it a once over before I spend any money replacing tyres etc.
It's showing 360,000 on the clock but has near perfect service history going up to 400,000 and that was back in 2007... There was quite a bit of work done in 2014 but no kms recorded on the invoices. that was the last time the fuel filter was changed (dated) and probably most other things.
However, it starts quickly, stops quickly, has very little blow by through the oil filler and transmission shifts smoothly.
I was planning to do the simple jobs such as fluid/filter changes myself, but not sure if I want to mess around with valve clearances and the like.
