European motor specialists

Post by Ivanerrol » Mon 29 Jan, 2018 11:03 pm

Friend has a W202 C220 ‘96.
Suffering from the dreaded blown head gasket. Coolant flooding out the rear of the head. He tried a couple of bottles of Barr’s leaks - all it did was block up the radiator and clog the thermostat. Small leak still apparent.
Fortunately for him he has a spare engine with only 60,000 kms on it in the garage.
Since I’m in the process of arranging to move to Noosa I told him I couldn’t do the engine swap for him for a few weeks.
Instead he arranged for a “European motor specialist mechanic” to do it.
Tonight I needed to go over a fix up all the stuff ups.
Engine was misfiring and backfiring. - turned out old resistive type spark plugs installed - electrode gap at least 11mm.
Engine overheating. - fan blade on fanclutch was rubbing against radiator shroud. This also caused a plastic burning smell plus a horrendous noise. Result . Fan blades edges worn off plus the fan clutch bearing is buggered. Fan runs shew whiff. - new shroud, fan blades and fan clutch required.
Under engine cover not installed.
Exhaust not installed properly.
Shite green coolant installed. After I specifically told my friend to go and get some blue stuff. Euro mechanic recommended Nulon crappe.
Belt tensioner shock is stuffed - should have been replaced. Deaf Freddy could hear the noise the old one is making.

Friend payed $2,200 for the engine to be replaced :dontknow:

Friend number 2. Female living on Gold Coast.
Has a nice little ‘98 W202 C200. It’s got around 180k’s on it.
She’s been taking it to her mechanic - A European car specialist.
She lives 300 metres away from Gullwing motors in Ashmore. :dontknow:

Today she calls me. AC is playing up and engine problematic. I told her the AC compressor is probably seized. She then took it to her European specialist who told her the car was scrap and she had better sell it on fleebay for $500.00.
I told her to take it to Gullwings - she then she told me they charged her $1,200 for a new compressor install ten years ago.
I then had to tell her to push the EC button and drive without AC until I get up there with another compressor.
She told me she took the W202 to a Atoyot stealer to try and trade it in on a new Corolla - they just laughed -didn’t want her car🙄
