Des, I'll be interested to hear what you think of the TT. A friend of mine had a cabrio of the first series - 1.8L turbo, I think it was. I was hugely impressed by that car. It's just amazing in corners! Get it into a National Park and let it rip. I have another friend who has been eyeing off the TT very recently. Out of curiosity, what's the delivery time like on one of these?
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Bruce,

How did you get into aircraft design? That would be a pretty cool job, combining both my passions; aviation and design, but I figured it would be impossibly hard to get into.

At the risk of making this a very long thread i thought it would be interesting if a few of us updated there info, I will go first, changes in blue.

Real name: John Green, O319-coach is my name on the L/O319 forum which i was a member of before the NSW club forum and OZBENZ started up so have just kept using the same name and login on all forums.
Yep, nobody could cope with this so i just use John Green as a login now.
Age: 42 most days, sometimes feel like 62
well this is kind of obvious, now 43 but only just made it. had a heart attack at 42 and 11 months. very much enjoying life now.

Have since brought a 280SE coupe 1968 with every option known to man fitted to it, then went a little silly and brought a 450SEL Crayford wagon, the 280SEL wagon will be for sale one day.

Following Mr Green's lead, here's an update for you.

Real Name: Michael
Age: 42
Location: Sydney South
Occupation: Company Accountant
Interests: Boating, but only when the weather is exactly perfect.

Benz: 230E (1985) was purchased new by my father and has only recently come into my possession. It's been well looked after and gets it's fair share of attention when it's out on the road. It's hard to believe 23 years has passed so quickly. It's got 212,000km on the clock, of which I've done just 2,000km in the last two years.

Other Cars: Citroen DS23 Automatique (1974), Rover Mini Cooper 1.3L SPI (1995), & Peugeot 206CC 2.0L (2004).

Dream Car, Unlimted Budget: I don't currently have any yearnings for any more cars. (Thankfully!)

Real name: Carey

1998 Ford Fairlane

Occupation: Distribution-Retail
Location: Gold Coast
Interests: Merc's naturally, Music, Movies, Top Gear, Bentley's, Trivia nights, cars in general, tennis.

Other cars I have owned: My 1st car was a 1973 Toyota Corona Mk II with the 2 litre 6 cyl engine, 1990 Mazda 929 V6 hartop- which was a great car- 215,000 km's and still only on it's second set of tyres-never broke down, 1996 Ford Nf V8 fairlane Ghia, 1994 Lexus LS400-brilliantly smooth and quiet-unbelievably well built, 2002 renault Laguna privllege wagon-did you see fatal attraction?-more stressful than the post of fire officer on the hindenburg, 2004 Toyota Corolla Levin Wagon-nice sporty 5 speed in burgandy mica, 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo automatic- In really good original condition-well looked after.and currently, a 1998 Ford Fairlane which is immaculate.

I would like a W140 400SE/500SE next!

Dream car no budget: Bentley Turbo R-Love that car!

Dream car that I could own: Bentley Turbo R- But the maintenance is a killer!!!!!! I once spoke to a bloke at a Mercedes dealer who also had a turbo R. I said, "expensive to maintain". He replied, " Expensive, Ha, my 3 ex-wives are pocket change compared to Bentley prices, but it is a spectacular machine. If It wasn't for the 3 ex's, I'd have another Bentley".
He was a mega rich guy but a really funny, down to earth kinda guy. Go figure! He had great taste in cars too!

Some time ago I had a debate with someone that the W107's were not made in RSA. I dodn;t know the answer but suspected due to the small volume that they were not. My freind however was sure they were, but could not offer any proof.

What is your chassis number??

From my understanding, if it was East London built it should have a tag like this under the bonnet.

the CDA number is like a SA VIN number for these cars from MB,

Image

car will still feature the standard Mercedes VIN plate

Been a member for a short time and though i better not do "ask questions then snob the forum" thing that so many do.

Real name: Jon
Age: 25
Sex: M
Benz: 1980 280SE
Occupation: School teacher
Location: South west vic.
Interests other than Mercedes: renovations
Other: I help run a large car forum - don't crucify me - it's a commodore forum. I sold my clunky VLV8 (hence the forum name i still use so i can remember it!) Drive a little old camry as my daily until the Merc is on the road. I was looking for a diesel merc to run veggie but didn't find one in my area for a reasonable price BUT as a sidestep i fell in love with the w116 shape and ended up grabbing a reasonable version very cheap. It needs work, and sadly for some i still have some 'commodore' in me i guess because i feel the need to modify it. Nothing over the top, but certainly more than the die-hards would like.
Looking forward to finishing this house so i can bring the car out of storage and start the process of revival.
Cheers.
