Yes, and nobody answered my question yet about what that canister thing attached to the dash is.
Well David,

I know the feeling, with 50 the eyes aren't good anymore. With my 200" monitor I could read the words electrical fuel pump. You touch it and you know if it works :laughing6:

Yes Thomas, I can actually read it as well, even with my eyes, but I think it is a pretty strange place to put a fuel pump, and besides, it doesn't appear to be connected properly. Perhaps it is an "arts and crafts" ashtray.

Given the high pressures developed in a lot of fuel pumps, and the propensity of hoses to leak, the last place I would want such a pump is in front of my face.

Sorry I didn't answer the question before, I recognised it when I first saw the photos as I have a similar one here .
It is a Facet brand fuel pump. I agree that it should not be installed in the cabin of a vehicle, even if the connections are all threaded connections.

Regard,
Tony

after looking at the pics and reading th blurb I casn now state that ned Kelly is a live and well and selling his Mercedes truck. The facet pump on the dash has top be the dumbest thing I've seen for a while...and i doubt Mercedes would have let a vehicle out the gate with much rust either.

The rear axle/diff has been changed to get the ole girl moving faster than 40 clicks down the hwy. :blackeye:

Another quick look.....

The fuel tank is on the incorrect side.
The two holes in the rear of the cab would be hard to fix unless you had the patterned panel form.
Minor but wrong headlights. Side mirrors are incorrect and in the wrong position. Side indicator lights are incorrect.
Rust rust rust. Would be interesting to see what type of rust is in the rear chassis.
The door window rubbers plus the quarter vent windows rubbers are crazy money.
Anyhow, looks a bargain :liar:  :laughing6:
Good luck with the sale.

Mercedes L319 $44,450.00

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1962-Mercede ... SwVL1V-PDq
This is for sale from the same guy who managed to sell this:

http://o319.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/get ... -gear.html

to someone in Germany who also thought it was worth a lot more than everyone else.

The Ute you see in this add used to belong to Glen (can't remember him surname) who owned the business named on the side of the ute cabin. He brought it from some kind of Government auction many years ago telling me that it used to belong to the ABC who used it for outside broadcasts. When I last saw it, over 15 years ago. It looked great, a real barn find. Quite obviously it has been sitting outside or poorly stored since then.

There's no state initials on the plate, so I'm guessing it's purely a show plate for burnout comps. I doubt any licencing authority would allow that registration!

Still have to be pretty foolish to put that plate on the car regardless.

It must be OK because the add says "This car represents great value at $15,000". And hell, the car has four speakers....that has to be worth something.

Love the mods to the front...NOT.

That one has been advertised for a very long time and he hasn't budged on price. Must be one of those situations of "Yes honey, I have advertised the car but can't attract any buyers".

One of my boys actually likes the car with its body kit, modified appearance and 2.6 engine and would consider buying it if only the price was far more realistic (like less than 20% of the current asking price). Manual transmission would also add considerably to the appeal.

I noticed this one also. No way is that worth $15thou. A series 1, with all that aftermarket stuff and horrible front end, it might appeal to some, but not me. Even with the low k's, lucky if he gets half that. There is also listed a 92 190e with a 1.8 motor, ugly redish cloth seats, no sun roof, manual windows and in-your-face after- market wheels at $9500. Apparently it's " priced to sell" so that would explain why it's been there for months also. Again, probably worth about half the asking price. Some folk have no idea of their cars market value and don't seem to understand that there are few buyers for heavily modified examples even if they are in reasonable condition.

Some people have been taking too much notice of foreign You Tube videos or watching too much Top Gear U.K. where good - original '80's Benz's are definitely coming up with good prices.

Notice the emphasis on Good and Original

New "80's and '90's Benz's in Australia came with stratospheric prices. There are those who come to think that those prices extrapolate to 2015.

A 1988 420SEL has been on carsales for ages. The photos indicate it has been well cared for and the price has come down to $8900. But the owner is still dreaming. It's got 460,000 ks on it. But since "This car was delivered new to His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania" the owner's going to hang in there. When the car finally hits the wreckers, just think how much more the parts will fetch because His Excellency once sat in the back seat!

years ago,American hot rodders had an expression for badly built rods, those with too much engine and too little chassis strength. It was "flexy flyer " this is a prime example . I bet this thing wriggles all over the road and at $35,000 it isn't priced to sell either.

sondershutz = special body as in special options such as rear bucket seats, divider, refriderater in the rear etc . .probably been surfing the EPC or reading too much on US websites.
Actually it means "special protection", referring specifically to armoured vehicles. It's a version, not a company. M-B made them in house, and when they reach the end of service life, they take them back and destroy them presumably for security reasons.

They have very obviously different door frames to accommodate the super thick glass and the advertised 420 most definitely doesn't have that!

I don't think anyone is actually disagreeing about sonderschutz. because Ron is also correct about the reference to Gelandewagen. I was simply referring to the lack of visible armour protection on the w126 in the carsales ad - knowing that sonderschutz was the "armoured divsion" . They are still making the S class guards today. I am not actually sure if they are ADR compliant though.... I seem to recall some issue with armor plated passenger vehicles being brought into the country... dotars perhaps? may need to revise this...

Yes it literally translates into special protection, but again, it's also a loosely interpreted code for special vehicle modifications, because also as Ron pointed out, the sonderschutz codes also happened to feature / include the 'opulent dictator / druglord / movie-star / al fayed - PoW' options along with the 'extras' pack with hardcore HV projectile / explosive device impact protection. Built to order, big ticket prices... you have to wonder what that 126 has to make it worth 35K, don't you?

secret stash for your meth-empire? guns? cash? gold? holy grail? Marcelles Wallace's suitcase? who knows...

Sonder = speacial Shutz =car body but it can also mean shed. the term Mercedes use internally for their panzer cars is Sondershutzfarzuege guard . Special car bodyshell constrution. The guy selling the 420 for hus mate has logged into the EPC and it says on the drop down menu 420SEL 125xxx and in a box underneath it wil have sondershutz special 420 126 xxxx . And of course he has guessed this must be something special. And it would be if it was ordered with the high compression engine, and rear bucket seats, heated seats etc etc but it doesn't mean armoured car in this context. If it were a amoured car the EPC would show it's chSSIS NUMBER AS BEING SPECIAL PROTECTION OPTION . .

By the sound of the sellers name he's Dutch. He just wants to redeem all the money he has spent and make a profit too.
Good luck with that one. If he's paid someone to do the work it's "good-bye" to that money.

You cannot reproduce "original". I agree the price is "ambitious", but for a reasonable price, this should just be conserved as it is ...

This guy. Has to be a contender for the dumbass MB ad for the year. An 80's 180E listed as a '93, with 10,000klm (lol) when it looks like 300k and then on closer inspection the mono wiper is gone and replaced with a generic type wiper arm.

I nearly spat my dentures out when I first saw the ad
