In fact that is cheap, when you compare it with the other cars they are selling:

A horribly modded HR Holden for $35 K
An '85 Commodore for $20 K
A '73 Torana for $55 K
An XY Falcon for $130 K

The list goes on and on. If you were trapped on their webpage the W116 would look very tempting. I have been to their premises (near my Mum's place) to look at the W110 they have. In the pictures it looks good - in the flesh, not.

If it really was nice then maybe but not all tarted up with the wrong gear lever, wrong badge in the steering wheel, wrong stereo, extra speakers(?) and dash mat (hiding cracks?) on the dash, copy alloy wheels, mud flaps and extra ugly chunky wheel arch trims. Yuck! If you want all that crap on your car that's fine but if you want to sell it for absolute top price it needs to be perfect which also means very original.

Hendrik I'd have that 200 any day over this one!

Faded paint, cracked dash, filthy interior, radio pulled out, no rego and needs fuel pump - all for the bargain price of $3500

At least it comes with four tyres... :banghead:

Even if there were photos and full description it still wouldn't be worth the price they are asking as most people can sell an SEC for half the price

Either someone has been looking at 2-door prices or typed one to many zeroes. Up on blocks, I can see rust on the bumpers and he wants how much??!!

Someone needs to come back down to earth. You could get a better car for half that price: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/strathbo ... 1075725583

Maybe 16v prices are on the rise. I attended a Pickles salvage auction in Sydney today with an interest in the 2.3-16 automatic that was also listed on Gumtree for $6k. I believe this is the same one that was listed on Gumtree in Queensland not so long ago (last registered in NT about 5 years ago). After seeing the car "in the flesh" I decided I would only consider it for parts (it appeared much better in the photos). Whilst it was fairly original, it was suffering badly from sun exposure, had some damage and wasn't running. It went to an online bidder (who presumably hadn't inspected it) for $5500 (plus 11% and other fees), way more than I was prepared to pay. If this is any indication of what they are worth, maybe that smoke silver one in Victoria isn't so overpriced at $37k. Seems I bought my ex Alan Jones manual 2.3-16 at the right time.

Accolades not for this guys script writing and photography.

He obviously has no idea that iron ore is less than $50- a tonne. Scrap value is likely the same or less. I got $35- for 1200kgs recently.

Shame on this guy for even having a three pointed star in his possession.

I disagree. I reckon that is a bloody good effort and he only wants 8K for it. Sure the shape is a bit off, and it is ugly, but given the price of a real 300SL, this is a bargain. Drive it fast enough and nobody will know ...

3600 man hours in one year is nearly 70 hours per week. must have had 2 people working on it full time for 12 months ???????

I hope it sells quickly - a W108 should never have been in a place called "Tin Can Bay" to start with.

There's a 250SE over here for $27k which I thought was steep, until I saw this! (Still think $27k is still too steep though).

For $69k you'd at least hope that everything was restored correctly, for example you wouldn't want two separate types of dashboard (left is early, right is late) and that all too common mistake of trimming the centre of the wheel in the seat colour. Oh and the wrong hub caps.

I know I'm nitpicking, but jeez...$69k, really?!?!

Yeah, and it looks like a later style console / shifter and possibly even the front seats look more like w116/w123 style.

Worth it for the badges alone - and it certainly has an "interesting" interior. This is in my brother's suburb, so I should have a look next time I go up.

I love these adds that say "Lady owner." Surely not very PC. I am keen to see a Merc add with "Always driven by stinking-rich white males."

Like you will be able to advertise yours when you are sick of it?

Sick of a W108 - never! However, I am now 50, so there will no-doubt come a time when I am too sick to drive it and Derrick will be sick of fixing it.

Apart from the obvious rust in the cab, what is it with the different hubs on the F & R axles?
Has someone swapped the diff?

Tony
