Before the tilt tray was the bob-tail, crew cab, vehicle recovery unit.

Not only is a Mercedes Benz truck, but it is transporting a Mercedes Benz car.

Good photos,
Tony
ps, the first MB I ever drove was a 911 4x4 with super singles all around.
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

'83 W123 300D 325000km (Wife's car Josephine - sold).
'84 W123 300D replaced good OM617 912 with OM617 952 and enjoyed having good acceleration for the first time since first driving a 300D in 2002 - became engine and trans donor for 300CD Turbodiesel conversion. Now parted out.
'86 W124 300D sold (Wife's old car - sold )
'85 W123 300CD, 275 000km (Fatmobile) rebuilt turbodiesel from previous Fatmobile transplanted into 280CE (SOLD)
'99 W202 C250 Turbodiesel (my darling Wife's car - Sold)

I'm thinking of getting one of those. How did it drive? Was it a turbo or non turbo, and did you take it off road?
Do you know if they all come with a lockable rear diff, or was it an option?

Cheers,
Troppo.

When I first drove it, I drove from Perth to Carnarvon (900km), it was as skittery as anything and I constantly fought to keep her pointed in the right direction. In Carnarvon, I dropped the tyre pressures from 120psi to 60 psi and she drove like a totally different vehicle, easily kept on track and much less bouncy (I had a light load).

We nicknamed her "Waltzing Matilda".
She had a turbo diesel and had diff locks front and rear.
In low gears she would walk over mountains. In top in 2WD, she could cruise at 90 -100 km/h, but that was dependant on the tyres fitted.
The super singles were fitted to avoid rocks jamming between rear duals and chewing out tyres.

The only thing I hated about her was that she had 24V electrics and no radio or tape deck, so I learned every noise she made, over many hours of driving her along the gas pipeline in 1982-3 while we installed the Pipeline Communications systems (construction camp communications and the mainline communications which are still in use today)
