Diesel IP Swap 240D to 207D Van ?

Hello. I'm a new member to this this site and hope someone can help with this question.
I am doing up English import 1988 207D van which had a damaged engine OM616, same engine as 240D car.
I have a reconditioned engine from 1973 240 D which we have swapped over and fitted into van with very little modification.
However the van engine has a later model diesel injector pump with different air intake etc but the all the pipework and mounting seems the same.
Is it possible to fit the later pump from the van engine to the earlier car engine ??????.
Their is a local South African mechanic who has yet to look athe two engines.
Does anyone have any advice ??

Basically it will all work. However there were many differance versions of the OM616 each with a slight improvement in performance. There are chanced in the compression ratioo, camshaft profiles and injection pumps. By swapping it all around you are kind of undoing the masters work. But that said it is better than a van that wont run at all so i would just do it and see what happans...

If you've got the VIN for the van and the engine number for the 240D most Merc dealers should be able to lookup the injection pump models.

You can try a Russian website http://www.detali.ru/ and use the Google language tools to have access to the Merc electronic parts manuals.

I believe that the IP from the 73 240D has an oil reservoir with a dipstick.

The IP from the later engine will have and oil feed from the engine oil pump, which is not available on the early engine.
You will need to see how you can get the oil to and from the IP.
