Tuning a 77 280SE

Hello all

Can anyone here assist me with how to tune my w116 280 Se 1977 model?

It’s rough running .

There is only so much that a home mechanic can do. So do all the basics first:

- Check the valve clearances, fit new rocker cover gasket.
- New spark plugs, keep in order and even take a picture of them all together, just to remember.
- Check condition of distributor cap and rotor button, replace if at all suspect looking
- Check leads for resistance, the lead itself should be copper core (not silicone) so it should have no (or very little) resistance, the resistance is in the plug connectors
- While checking leads have a look inside the plug connector to make sure it is clean and making a good contact with the plug
- Check vacuum advance is working
- Set timing (should have sticker on radiator support if it is a 1977>>> model

Beyond that you need a gas anylizor to set the air fuel ratio.
