W116 popularity as Bash Cars

The 450 SEL W116 is becoming one of the most popular cars for use as a "Variety Bash" car.
This year NSW event had more than 10 450's on the event. Photos to follow.
Strengthening the front shock absorber upper mount points is a necessity.

I'd love to see some pics! Sounds like great fun and W116s are certainly in plentiful supply at the bottom end of the market. Obviously popular for their durability and comfort.

Only downside I can see is the fuel consumption, but you could easily get around this by running them on gas - although the availability of gas in remote locations would be an issue - what are most people doing regarding fuel?

Intriguing. I happen to have a 'spare' 450SEL - a British import - at the minute. 137k from new, goes like stink and sounds amazing, too good to wreck but no show pony. Luvverly blue velour interior. What to do with it may now have been solved.

Recently I did see a 560SEL in fully rally regalia. Got me quite excited.

My 280SEL is too good car to rally, but the 450. Mmmmmmmm. I'll just google some photos and pour a glass of wine......
