R107 conservation (II): Fluid Film

Post by T-Modell » Wed 23 Jul, 2014 12:56 am

Hello down under,

yesterday and today, part II was done: Removed the surface rust mechanically where possible and used Fertan Rust converter over night (http://www.fertan.com/products/derustin ... converter/)
Image

This morning washed the stuff off and used Brantho-Korrux to protect the bits, the aluminium parts were wash primed and then sprayed black:

Then the whole undercarriage was sprayed with Fluid Film (http://fluidfilm.de/en/produkte/liquid-a/203/). Not to forget all holes in the sillbar, in the bars underneath and the complete mudguards. Here some pictures:

Today we had around 28 degrees and it is VERY humid, so you can guess how wet I came out of my full-body condom: :laughing6: :laughing6:

Tomorrow I have to put my condom on again to spray the transparent wax. The I dismantle my "garage shower" and - last but not least, the doors are done (just the bottom 10cms) ...

Best regards
Thomas

So your garage hoist/lift is proving useful for more than just stack parking. I look forward to one day having a new garage also with a hoist for both stack parking and working on the car.

You are brave using rust converter on such a large scale and I can understand all the plastic sheet and protective clothing. I hate using rust converter even on a small scale because of the way it stains everything.

Greg,
especially on the front and rear axle it's (imho) impossible to remove the rust mechanically. Also I was told, that a chemical process to "passivate" the rust is recommended. Anyway, it smells nice and the stains on the skin are quite hard to remove too. That's why I used that condom; unfortunately I couldn't use the protection glasses, as they fogged up after 10 seconds ...
