Front indicator bulb replacement

Post by TheMadRacoon » Mon 14 Apr, 2014 8:11 pm

Hi All,

I don't have the SLC's manual, but I take it I have to remove the headlight assembly to replace the indicator bulb?

Think you need to remove the trim below the headlight then remove the headlight and indicator held in place by screws?

They don't have a plastic knob that you undo from inside the engine compartment and then you can just push the whole unit forwards like on the sedans?

Dave is correct. The slim painted panel below the headlight needs to be removed. Undo the screw at each end of this panel and allow it to drop down behind the bumper a sufficient amount to access the screws that retain the headlight assembly. I suggest just allowing the slim panel to drop down as it can be difficult to remove completely. Remove the 3 screws that retain the headlight assembly (be careful not to confuse these with the beam aiming adjustment screws). The headlight assembly then removes complete with the turn signal lamp allowing access to all the bulbs.

Thank you. I forgot to ask about the bulb spec / part number. Car is garaged at work and don't want to pull off the headlight twice...once to get the bulb out & re-fit for security. Second time to fit replacement bulb.

Front turn signal bulb is 12V 21W Ba15s base. This is the common single contact bayonet as used in the rear lamps for brake, turn, reverse and fog lamps.

Front parking lamp bulb is 12V 4W Ba9s base. This is a small single contact bayonet. Be sure to use one where the glass bulb is no larger in diameter than the bayonet base.

Headlamp bulb is 12V 60/55W H4 P43t base. This is the common dual filament halogen used for headlamps throughout the 1970s to 1990s.

Whilst not in the same lamp assembly as the headlamps on a 107, the front foglamp bulbs are 12V 55W H3.

So I pulled out the headlamp (very easily, luckily) and had a look at the indicator end of the housing. That can't be it, I thought as I inspected the screw head of the screw holding the bulb holder: it was unmarked so I thought that shouldn't be touched. Must be those two nuts which must attach to studs which are part of the amber lens & hold the lens to the inner housing. Take those off & pop out the bulb. Too bad I only had a screw driver set with me (as you would when you're meant to be occupying the kids).

Found a photocopy of the relevant page of the manual posted online. Hmmm, it is that screw. Untouched. Hmmm....must be the original 40 year old globe, methinks.
