SLC seats in SL what’s required?

Post by 1979350SL » Mon 11 Mar, 2019 5:02 pm

Hi,

Just finished external reco of my benz and now turning to interior. The seats are pretty poor having been recovered previously with ill fitting and poor quality materials.

Seat backs are wobbly too with no apparent fix.

Have sourced a pair of seats out an SLC in tex that are in great shape but have read about the differences in the back locking mechanism. Is it possible to use these seats and if so can the vacuum lock system be deleted locking them in place? No interest in using the back seats. Thanks

You could hook them up to the vacuum system and have the seats lock when there is vacuum (ie Engine Running).

default operation for SLC seats when there is no vacuum is for them to be unlocked. it is safer to modify the seats before you install them so they either can't unlock, or to retrofit the vacuum. Otherwise in a crash the seat will move forward and push you into the steering wheel.

It’s the other side i can’t figure out. Side closest to door. On the other seat the belt bolts in to the metal hinge but there isn’t a spot for it on SLC seat.

Pics attached. Basically the SL seat has 2 anchor points. One for the seat belt receiver where you plug it in and one for the seat belt lap anchor point. SLC seat only has the seat belt receiver and nothing for anchorage of the lap point. I think I may have to switch over the bracket to suit unless there's another trick I'm missing?

Aaah! So there's a difference between the SLC and the SL seats, or maybe something changed in the model years.
This picture shows that the lower anchorage point for the seat belt on the door side is a bolt into the body and is not fixed to the seat.

Ah. Makes sense now. Got em both installed in the end switching out the bracket off the SL seat allowing seat anchorage. Pain in the back side but it’s done now. Thanks for the help!
