Hi all,

In my w108 it had a shift indicator in the instrument cluster reading 234NRP, I have since replaced this from a donor indicator that has the cable intact, this indicator though has LSDNRP. I assume D stands for drive, what does L and S stand for ?

L = Langsam (slow)
S = Schnell (Fast)

Thanks Bart - my son asked me that question just the other day.

Hi Bart,
afaik the correct "naming" is:

D: "direkt" ... all gears
S: "Steigung" (slope, uphill)
L: "Last" (load), i. e. trailer etc.

If S was "schnell" (fast) and L was "langsam" (slow), then D should be "diabolically fast" :laughing6:

Regards
Thomas

LSD...

Hmm....what does it mean when it's use begun in 70's?
LSD was used for 3 speed auto gearboxes, i believe.
Other use was to produce the best music of the 70's

Some would argue the best music of all time :sunny:

Ah that's quite interesting!
I have the same LSDNRP cluster and I can only seem to find 2 of the LSD gears, "S" and "D" presumably. I have to really slam the shifter to get to what I think is "S", which holds the gears very late and is good for hill climbs. Lately, when in "D", the car has been (almost randomly) finding first gear as well.

What should these gears/modes actually feel like?

Apparently these cars always take 2nd gear from standstill, unless you keep it in S or L.
Or maybe when you floor it, it will kick down to 1st...

That's correct - starts in second if in D. If you want first you pull the lever back to S it should start off in 1st and change up to second automatically, depending on how hard you have it floored. I can imagine if you keep it there moving slowly it would kick back again to 1st if you used the kick down. And first is very low so you will know. From S of course you have to manually move the lever to get it to change up further.
