Hand Brake Return

Post by dreadnought » Sun 03 Mar, 2019 5:44 pm

Is there a spring that returns the handbrake to the dash when the handbrake is disengaged, my handbrake does not return it just slides so I push it back in, it slides very easily, any help much appreciated. 1988 SE 300.

I think so. If you pull off the side kick panel under the dash on drivers side the mechanism is visible. Is it adjusted and works otherwise?

The handbrake appears to work fine, I just picked the car today, is there anywhere I can download a manual for a 300SE or a parts fiche, regards

Hi nameless ;-)

this is a picture of a W115, but I'm pretty sure the W126 is similar (at least the R107 is). You see the spring and the mechanism. The whole stuff is fixed at the dashboard cross bar and - probably with the W126 as well - two screws in the firewall, which can be seen inside the left wheel arch.

Is there a guide for handbrake adjustment? Our 500SE handbrake does work, but it can take several attempts to release it sufficiently to have the dash warning light go out.
