correct 560 injector part number?

Post by CraigB » Tue 02 Oct, 2018 3:24 pm

I have done a bit of searching and coming up with inconsistencies so maybe this is an EPC question. My '86 and '89 560 SELs have bosch 0 0437 502 035 steel injectors. A spare engine I have has 0 0437 502 054 but in brass. With various fitment guides either seem to come up with either fitting '89 except Run auto parts that says only post 1990. A peach parts thread someone says the 054 only for M119 and M104. Someone else suggests all the brass ones are crap but interchangeable with the steel. The brass ones look quite new with nice soft rubbers, so I reckon i will just put them in and see what happens. Will do a different thread at some stage to explain why all this is necessary!

According to the EPC, there were only 2 injectors. No mention of when they changed. As for the Bosch number, some research will be needed. Perhaps look at Bosch Tradition.

Thanks heaps for that. It doesn't have the date but shows that the earlier steel injector was replaced by the brass one. One of the many threads i read suggested by one person that the brass was used to prevent the steel ones corroding.... that was in response to the guy who said the steel ones were better. I'm gonna take a punt that 'replaced' means interchangeable - also because a lot of sites suggest the brass one fits the earlier cars.

Are they really brass, or just brass coloured?

They could have a surface coating that mimics brass, to stop corrosion and potential galling.
Brass is a lot weaker than steel, so it would surprise me they would replace it one to one...

Try a magnet.

good point.... shows how you read stuff in forums and believe it and take as fact without testing it. The working parts of the injector of course can't be brass and the shell within which it is contained that seems a bit pointless, so maybe it is brass coloured steel with some sort of anticorrosion coating. Bottom line the earlier ones look solid and steel and with some rust, the later much lighter looking in construction and no rust.

Update though is that my problem is solved with a spare set of the brassy looking ones and car purring like a kitten - when have a chance will document the journey from a tank of fuel that went off.
