Cruise control - repairable?

Post by Beamer » Tue 21 Nov, 2017 11:03 pm

Hi all

After a recent trip (with a lot of cruise control usage), the cruise control stalk on my 420SEL is no longer returning to the centre position. It is resting in the ‘cancel’ position (back towards the dash) as if whatever spring mechanism is supposed to bring it back forward to centre is no longer functioning. As a result, the cruise is not working properly (as it is constantly cancelling whenever it is set).

Does anyone know whether this can be repaired, or does the entire stalk (including indicators, etc) need to be replaced?

If you are good with disassembling fiddly things, you could give it a go.
I would buy a second hand working stalk and fit that while you work on your broken stalk.
Good luck.
If you find an east fix, please post it here so we can all have a go when we have a faulty stalk.
