Wanted! Gen 1 380SEC Pristine RH Window Switch

Post by mrsecman » Wed 13 Sep, 2017 11:12 pm

All. The decals have chipped off this switch. I'm told the only solution is to replace the switch so it looks nice and pristine. The LH window switch is still excellent. Has anyone got a spare RH switch assembly to sell? Many thanks! :-)

HI,
I would try German Ebay; here in Germany (where the steering wheel is in the correct position :laughing6: ), it's the other way round ... the left switch is normally used much more. Search for "mercedes w126 schalter fensterheber"
https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... r&_sacat=0

Have a look on ebay etc, you might be surprised how cheap aftermarket ones are. I will have a look what i have (I see you are in Adelaide), but usually they show signs of wear.

One tip for aftermarket: There are "cheap" ones, which aren't lit; so check the text of the offer.

Thanks for the advice folks! Will hunt around, see what I find. I'm bound to find it eventually. It's possible to get NEW but they're about $180.00 and I'd rather spend that on something else.

Probably not lit..... but then you should be looking at the road anyway and not your window switches!! I know how to find mine in the dark anyway!

You can also pop out the buttons on these and swap them with the buttons from an aftermarket switch so you have the improved cosmetics from a cheap aftermarket switch with the quality of your original body/mechanism.

Thats a good idea and if translucent the light is in the switch and might work. Alternatively a rear window rocker bit might fit too and much less likely to be worn.

Those are the ones without light; in due course I will try to 3d-print those inlets; the symbols for windows are designed already; The test with black and translucent filament still to be done ...

I was thinking the rear button of the front switch block - thinking the front one most likely to be worn. But thats great if you can make replacements just for the bit that wears.

What's absurd about this is it's only the circular window decal covering that's worn off - the light still comes through and whole switch works fine. Chips and wear on the "decal" look tacky though. Amazing how something so simple requires so much effort or different method.

I might check out a hobby shop - if I can find back decal cover I may be able to fashion something.

Hmm there should be an easier way -

I'm pretty sure the rocker switch part comes away easily (pop the dowel on each side)
from the main part of the switch box (I'm sure I've done this years ago)

Get a brand new after market switch on ebay -
I've seen them available for 12 bucks (Aussie) for BOTH full switches - Free delivery!

Pop the old rocker switches out and replace - just watch you don't lose the ball bearings!
