Got a pile of 409 tube Cheap, the mandrel bends are 304 and I have some oval 316 I was going to use to duplicate the tips, until I found originals in the wrong section of eBay USA real cheap. Made the stamp and all ready to go.

32 years of making brands, horseshoes, (even medieval weaponry for one nutter) whatever, with a year off as a boilermaker apprentice when a horse smashed my knee one time.

The first lot of stainless I ordered in local and got mixed up on the grade but ended up with it cheap, then ecs engines in Sydney , half the price even with postage.

Craig I got the dimensions for the tips off AMG classic and scaled the stamp to suit , but then when I got my genuine tips I discovered the blueprints I was scaling to weren't accurate.

Back into it today after a six week hiatus, one more complex bend, then pull it all out and weld the back section.

Image

Gave myself an inch clearance at the flex disc and an 3/4 inch from the cv at full droop, while keeping everything else up as high as I could.

Can't wait to hear how it sounds, if it starts after 6 weeks sitting.

Not as loud as I thought, really boogies up over 4500rpm now, no crossover, no drone, very deep tone and a very slight crackleback when backing off.

Merc-304 tips and muffler from the states about $400 AU delivered, the rest about $400- $500 hard to say as I have enough tube to do another. The cost in man-hours is the killer, wouldn't do it again in my situation.

EXCELLENT!!!
that custom build worked out very well Gav both at idle and at revs- well done
In my case i am waiting on the Magnaflow rear mufflers to turn up (due for delivery this week) and then i will be seeing a local muffler shop to custom build the pipe-work with me supplying the mufflers.
At least i know the sound will be spot on.

Sounds good Gav, nice work.
I can confirm that running no muffler at all does not sound good - it throbs and is loud but in an obnoxious way. (After pulling the muffler off for the fuel line repair I did not bother to put it back on, but now I will.)

It has a real deep base note that doesn't come through on the iPhone recording, but not loud, still a Mercedes if you know what I mean.
I ran the 560 HV sans exhaust and yeah that was obnoxious.

New front shocks and flex discs.
Running rich, but reliable. 👍🏽
