380SL manifold wanted.

Post by 380SL »

Hi, The transport company who was delivering my 1984 380SL somehow snapped the LH exhaust manifold while in transit. I'm getting it welded up but would prefer a new / old one if I can get my hands on one? Does anyone have or can guide me to a replacement manifold please. Thanks in advance.

Apologies, I can't help with a manifold ... Assume the R107 is different from the W126 .... But I have to ask, how on earth did they snap the manifold ... ?

I would guess at caught the exhaust on something and broke the manifold, I have seen this before. I would suggest that it will be more than a broken manifold as the exhaust is also most likely bent.

Its possible your vehicle has been lifted by forklift, catching the front exhaust pipe and breaking the manifold (I have seen this happen). Check under the car for any further damage.
John at MB Classic Star in Sydney may be able to help source a manifold, ph 02 9790 1126.
I trust the transport company has offered to pay for repairs.

It's in the hands of the insurers now. No idea how it was done. probably loading/unloading? It went on about 5 trucks apparently.

I would push hard for a used or even new manifold, not a welded up one. Cast iron is very difficult to weld and will be nowhere near as strong as the original. The whole idea of insurance is that it gets you back to where you were before, and at a guess before you didn't have a welded up manifold or a bent exhaust.

Thanks for all the advice. I'd much rather a new one too! Can you tell me if this is the right one please.

So it seems there are a number of different types of manifolds for the same year and model! back to where I started!
