M102 Water Pump - Early

Brothers 230TE is leaking and needs replacement - Seems straight forward but how do you crack the centre nut to get off the vee belt pulley ? Cannot anchor the fan as the magnetic clutch hasn't engaged .... Spins freely. Can't fit a rattle gun in there as the condenser for the air con is in the way .... Tried bumping it with tying a breaker bar in position and nudging the starter (It's how you get the centre bolt off the harmonic balancer on a 22R HiLux) .... Am I pulling the condenser or is there another trick ? Can I pull it off with the fan still on so I can extract on the bench ?

Easiest way is with the v-belt still fitted and tight - the pulley nut ‘should’ come off quite easily.
Otherwise have a friend grab the fan, or wrap some rope around blades and anchor somewhere firm… i.e. over the fender to a wheel.
Then bang your breaker bar.

Have you tried to short out the magnet so the clutch is engaged?

Thanks John and Christo,

By shorting out the fan you mean apply 12 v to it ? I can then do what Christo suggests and anchor the fan in position .....

Thanks John & Christo - Worked a treat.

Now ... wrong pump - Spot the differences. It seems it was not as early as the VIN thought - how did you cope with the variations John. Fortunately, this one was sourced locally and they have the next one along, but I have to wait till Tue.

Yep, you need to use the engine number on these early cars to order parts like this.
