Heater fan motor

Post by Monaro Charlie »

I have been having intermittent fan operation: slap the dashboard or under the glovebox and it goes - for a while. The donor car (Sth Africa) had a Smiths motor(!), about 20mm longer, same dia, so won't fit without a day of cutting and brazing to make it fit. Last resort. There is no part number stamped on the side.

Is it worth my while to put in a 12v brushless motor of similar or smaller dia and/or length . There are only 2 wires in - power and earth. Would it stuff up the resistors that govern fan speed?
Cheers
Graham

You can pull the motor apart and replace the brushes.

See the metal tabs on the side, then can be punch upward so that the lid comes off. You can grease the bearing while you are at it. Then punch them down again. I got brushes of fleaB, had to solder them in and re-use the original springs.

New Brushes = another 40 years of service ......
