Help! Need a w123 propshaft (Sydney)

Post by Shonky »

Hi all.

Unfortunately, the propshaft UJ in my 300D has died.

Buying a new UJ off the shelf was simple, and perhaps emboldened me that installation would be simple. It appears not! I found only one person at one shop who can/will replace a staked-in UJ, but they are away until August.

My understanding is that failure is rare, and as such a good used one is looking like my best bet.

Please, if anyone has a decent one lurking in a corner somewhere, let me buy it off you!

I'm currently relegated to driving a purple Mitsubishi and the shame is too much to bear. :confused5:

There used to be heaps around as W123 being dismantled were a dime a dozen - Now they are all gone. Try 60delux as he was gutting a few earlier this year.

Yep, the W123 has gone from "old car" to "cool old car" and now it's "fire truck, sweet classic man ".

I have a mate who's been storing some W123 stuff i gave him when i had to move house and couldn't keep all my collection.

I'll send him a message and see if he's gone one.

A Mitsubishi?! Let's get you out of that sad excuse for a car as soon as possible!

I'm in Brisbane but I have three driveshafts from a W123 tucked away in the shed. I can look at freight if you would like. It would be best to ring me on 0431 462 303.

Regards,
Kieran

Wow - thanks all for the very prompt help! I greatly appreciate it.

Seems like all leads are interstate, so Kieran I might contact you later this week if that's alright?

I'll have one last go at finding one locally first but I'm definitely reassured that I'll be able to get back behind the wheel of my Benz soon, one way or another.

Thank you all once again. Being new to the marque, I'm still finding where and who I can go to for things so I'm very thankful that the Benz scene has been so welcoming.

I've managed to source a shaft closer to home, which I collected today.

It's in to get balanced with some new couplings and I should be back on the road this week.

That shaft should not need balancing? Just fit and enjoy.

Damn.
I read/heard somewhere along the way that balancing them with the new couplings was recommended.

Oh well. Good to know for when it next needs doing in 2063.

Thanks John.

EDIT: Retrieved the shaft from the shop before they got to it, so I'll just put it in.
