Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
I'm just about to do the kingpins on my W108 3.5. I've read some useful threads here on the how. Can anyone advise me on the other adjacent parts I should be looking to replace/repair when doing the kingpins (control arm bits?). If it is possible to let me know part names (and numbers!) it would be a blessing. Thanks in advance.

Re: Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
Minimum requirements are:
111 586 00 33 king pin kit
110 330 02 18 upper outer pivot kit
110 330 03 18 lower outer pivot kit
You do however always find other issues, and things you might as well do while you are in there. Best example is brake hoses.

Re: Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
It was easy to source:
111 586 00 33 king pin kit
110 330 02 18 upper outer pivot kit
I'm having a very hard time finding the (110 330 03 18) lower outer pivot kit from any of my usual suppliers - even from fleabay! Any pointers?

Re: Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
Thanks again John - been there already (one of my usual suppliers) - they're out of stock when you press 'buy'. Did manage to find some from Prestige Parts on flea bay at a somewhat inflated price - but hey, it's for my girl. Love knows no bounds...

Re: Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
And the big thing to check is to clean the wishbones and look very closely for cracks around the outer pivot points. More than a few cars have cracked there and tried to assassinate their drivers. And if you are doing the front brake hoses, and all the trouble of rebleeding the system, might aswell do rear too - unless you know last time they were changed.

Re: Other parts needed when replacing king pins?
Other things to look at while you are doing your king pins, is the lateral strut on the front axle. The bushes often flog out.
And if they have not been done in the last 10 years, most likely the flexible mounts that connect the front axle to the body have to be replaced.
They are sort of hidden, but go hard and collapse. I wrote up a piece on my finny (which is technically similar)
By the way, you need a 20 H7 reamer for the kingpin refurb. After you replaced the bronze bushes (which you will have to cut out) they are too small for the kingpin and need to be reamed to size. Any machine shop should be able to do that for you.
Regards, Bart
