W108 rear seatbelts

Post by julian »

Hi folks.
Finally getting the w108 running. It needs seatbelts in the rear to help hold children still. Anyone know where to source such things?

You may soon discover there is no hole to mount the "lap" belt down the side of the seat. From factory I believe you can only do "sash" on the outer and "lap" on the centre seat. I'm going through this myself.

There's a company in Ballarat that does quality belts - Hemco.

Same thing on the finnie. But nothing a drill cannot fix.
Andreas from DBDepot also sells you nuts welded to a plate, so you can make your own fixation points.

Please note that all safety belts in the whole wide worlds are fixed with an imperial size 7/16-20 UNF fastener....

Someone was asking the same question on facebook the other week, there is this company in the states that sells seatbelts with 30 colours of webbing and the choice of standard or period correct chrome lever buckles:

https://www.wescoperformance.com/resebe.html

https://www.wescoperformance.com/1126s.html

https://www.wescoperformance.com/lap-be ... k-chc.html

Note that being US made it's likely that these may not meet Australian standards, so not sure how you may go with compliance etc - however IMHO having these new seatbelts is way better than no seatbelts at all - and having them mounted and installed / positioned correctly is much more important than whether the seatbelt is AS approved.

Willshire motor trimmers in Richmond do seatbelt installs and they used to sponsor the SA MB club, if you go in there and speak to Darryl Bowler he may be able to do you a better price.

Be careful with which belts you buy. Technically all seatbelts fitted t cars here in Australia must meet ADR's. This means most imported belts are technically unroadworthy. Chances of it being an issue are slim, however I am sure this is not something you want to deal with if the unfortunate occurs.

Anything you buy here will comply and after all it is just a seatbelt. You only need to specify the length and design style along with fixed or webbing style buckle.
