Tony,
I think I know what it means ... he recently got 280 characters cheaply on Ebay and tries to put them into a sequence

No, I got a bottle of Jim Beam ...honey flavour!

above the FRONT interior light is a round hole ca 1cm diameter. I do not have the car here to take a pic.
we are older folk so thanks for your care.
My mate has three 280, 126,es but only one has the hole...thought it may be for a manual operation of sunroof...but doubt it... 1987 model
thank you all kindly.

I think its for the air sensor for the A/C system - theres usually a small plastic grill that covers it on a Gen 1 W126. (which also has the sunroof switch above the heater control panel on the dash). Given this and the fact they stopped making 280SE in 1985, I doubt its a 1987 model. Hope this helps.

Ps. The manual Sunroof function is located in the right hand side of the boot (behind the plastic cover)

Thanks kindly for the concise description. I may have the model wrong as Cel has 3 of them and a Gen 1 124 arrived as we were checking the 190E !

Confusing I know...cheersB
