Cylinder head - swap or not to swap

Post by dynamike » Mon 05 Jun, 2017 10:33 am

So I'm picking up my new 220Sb this week.

Its M180 engine is running very well with no issues except possibly some tweaking required for the cold start idle. Service history shows the typical things being attended to a while back like the waterpump.

As you know, I've also got a completely rebuilt M127 engine from my decommissioned 220SEb sitting around. The new 220Sb has papers all the way back to delivery in '66 so obviously I want to keep the original engine.

Now my dilemma is whether I should try and sell the rebuilt engine as a whole or pull it apart and swap over the freshly rebuilt cylinder head onto the M180 engine noting it's running fine so no real need for it.

Thoughts?

Mike,

The heads are different. It can be made to fit but will look dodgy.

Keep or sell the rebuilt engine. Or otherwise swap in your own car.

Thanks Bart. Had no idea they were different. That makes it an easy decision.
Will need read up on the mechanics of the 220Sb next.

Hopefully it didn't get all too hard for him and rolled into a garage somewhere to hide.
