Unless you want to spend mega bucks check out the best used ones you can find then get them repaired. Which means, apart from accident damage, make sure the ones you look at are not too badly rusted at the rear sill section and above the headlight bucket . The rear part is easily fixed, not so much the headlight end. DBdepot in Germany occasionally has NOS ones for sale but the price is understandably high.

thanks Guys I did try the site sponsor but no luck ..

been a metal shaper making the parts is not a big issue .. it also seems there could be a market for patch panel,

how many w111 where made ?
are they restored or on the less desirable list ?

thanks David

They are surely restored.

Mine is under a (very slow) resto process.

Mercmad is restoring a W112 (300 SE lang) for another Ozbenz member

The coupe's and especially the cabriolet's are more valuable.
In Australia the Sedan's are not very valuable yet, but that could change soon.
You can still buy them cheap. But don't make the mistake of buying the cheapest one - it will turn out the most expensive.

In Europe they cost a lot more, because they rot so much harder there.

If you want to know more about the noble finnie, spend a few hours reading here:

thanks Bart, yeah I think I have the rustiest one now .. 2k hmmm
a close exam once home reveals heavy filler in all panel including the roof ..
so we the std rust spots .. front bumper supports, both gurads headlight area and lower section ,, both sills
both of all doors .. boot floor .. front floor where it connect to fire wall ..
roof has several dents that have been filled with filler in some areas up to 10 mm think ..

I'm not game to have it sand blasted but I'm sure there more to come ..
still in 2 minds as to keep it or part it our ..

a look at the site shows I have a 220sb motor (180941)
and s 220seb frame ..
also the column shift had been disconnected and it has a 4 on the floor setup .. not sure what that's from atm
Cheers

I don't want to disappoint you, but you are describing 4000 dollars in sheet metal alone, before it is even welded in. You probably need a rotisserie to rebuild the body.
I just sold some aftermarket sills to a member who is restoring the 300SE lang (a far rarer car than what we have).
I still have OEM floor sitting in my shed.

I have a donor car as rotten as yours, I thought about restoring the body but bought a better one (hence the floors and sills)

You should be able to find a proper body with a rotten engine or a dodgy GM conversion.

Keep your 4 on the floor setup, this is quite sought after. The the linkage is unique and I thought the gearboxes have a different top cover.

Thanks Bart, I did notice the silly prices for patch panels os . the equivalent holden or ford sill is about $100 bucks M B $900 landed ..

lucky 4 me I have a shop full of metal shaping equipment bead roller , English wheel . pull max etc so making then is not a big issue infact its an enjoyable challenge , clearly the time and expense spent on the project makes it very costly option even making my own part .. but that what I do for entertainment in my retirement ..
ill post so pics when I get to 5 post .. most would run from this basket case

Do not forget the jacking points when you open up the sills.

Usually when the sills are gone, the jacking points are rotten too.
You can buy them quite cheaply (repro), the have a reinforcement welded around them.

The sills have a lot more elaborate shape than a contemporary Holden or Ford.

Dave,

I have a pair of front mudguards for a W111 Sedan

They were sandblasted by me in 2009 and coated with epoxy primer inside and out.
They have some rusted pinholes on the edge where they are bolted to the inner fender, but that's all apart from some surface rust from storage.
There was no bog on them to begin with.

Can provide pictures if you are interested.
I would like 250 each + shipment, but I am in WA

I also have a LH and RH floor, original Mercedes with stickers still on them. Still in black shop primer.
If you are interested, I can find out what I paid for them in Germany in 2013.

HOWEVER!

As I said before If I was in your shoes I would find a better body first and use this one as a donor car.
My donor car is in far better state than your resto object....

Will take some photos of the shell of my 220SEb when I get back. You might just as well take the whole car if it's in better nick than yours. Wouldn't ask for much more than what the wreckers would pay so might be affordable enough even when you include transport.

Never seen one of these, it is not on either of my cars.

It's got a crimped hose on it, so must have something to do with fluid pressure.
An external brake switch?
Could this be a remnant of a hydrak or something?

Did you check your VIN number?

Was your car originally fuel injected and engine has been replaced with a carburetored version?

Yesterday I, too, received the notice from Photobucket that I had been detected linking to third-party sites and that features of my account had consequently been restricted.

I had the account for 12 years, and it had received 27,932 views from others.

My reaction was to download the pix that mattered, then I deleted all 7,934 photos and 98 albums, and cancelled my account. When the "please explain" window popped up I gave them my reason: that they were practising "ransomware" and that they could go and autofornicate (or words to that effect).

The first one is your VIN number. It tells me you have:

From the 1960s onwards the build up of the identification code is as follows:
The numbers have 14 digits on all models.
* The first three digits: type (as W number).
* Next three digits: body type.
* A. Seventh digit: 1 for Left hand Driven cars built in Germany, if built outside Germany this number would be a 5.
* B. Seventh digit: 2 for Right Hand Driven cars built in Germany, if built outside Germany this number would be a 6.
* Eight digit: 0 for standard transmission, 1 for Hydrak clutch or 2 for automatic transmission.
* Last six digits: serial number.
For example: 111.014-52-123456 would be the identification code for a 220SE (W111.014), Left Hand Drive built outside Germany (5), Automatic transmission (2) and with 123456 as a serial number.

The 2nd one is your engine number, which is for a 220S (carburettor)

Ergo:

Originally your car was a 220SE RHD manual, built in Oz or South Africa, but the engine was changed to a 220S

thanks Bart

so i take the 220s motor if from an earlier merc 1956 - 1959
which makes the car even less desirable maybe the motor has a resale value as it has a 4 speed floor shift ..runs ok

No Dave,

The engine is from a 220Sb. Sorry, I should have been clearer on that. It's not from a Ponton.

The engine is period correct, it's just not the original fuel injected engine.

Have a look here: http://www.heckflosse.nl/engine4.htm

If you look under your car, you might still have the original fuel tank with the electric pump hanging in front of it.

Yes the floor shift has a bit of extra resale value. People are looking for such a gearbox including the floor shift kit (me included)

Definitely not because they were used on all of the mechanical fuel injected Mercedes and those of us who mess with these things often have few laying about .They are easily repaired ,which is nearly always a leaky valve inside them. They come apart so the seat and valve can be lapped . The coil is typical old style Bosch and the only time they fail is when they are hit by an engine ...lifting the engine out and the manifold wacks it . keep it as a keep sake or in case someone ever wants one. The ridiculous asking price might be because Gull wings use the same part ,but as i say,you would never need to buy one.
