Stripped the paint of the replacement front guard, rust free finny guards are pretty hard to find, especially 300SE guards!

I've been beavering away on Konrad for a while now and it's got to the point where I'm removing all the old paint to get him ready for painting. Most of the paint is original which makes it easy to get off with a few wipes of paint stripper. There were a lot of little dings and dents to straighten out and on the roof i have had to sort out rust spots where strone chips exposed the metal .

IMG_0094 (1).JPG

Under the paint the guards look pretty good and no rust on the drivers side (unlike the passenger side)

Not much progress this week , but the car is covered with phos acid to kill the small rust spots not visible in the pics. These are from the many little stone chips , or sand chips as the car is from WA. :laughing6:

Hey Ron,

What's happening with Konrad? Any progress to show? It's pictures we like to make our dull days a bit brighter...

Here we go, Been flat out busy doing a couple of other cars plus the occasional quick jobs (to pay the rent :laughing6: ) but I have been flat out on the old bugger for the last few days but still getting the sheet metal straight for paint . All of the underseal has been repaired and redone in the correct texture in a cream colour as per original, this is then covered with Body colour paint when the final paint coats are applied . This a lot tougher than the original PVC and will be there for another 60 years at least.
Some pics here..https://benzkraft.co/2016/08/01/300se-lang-rust-repair-continued-part-2/

Works for me...

Ron, what do you use for the underseal? Wurth or Teroson?

Looks like Ron hasn't been on the forum since Tuesday 16th - give him time, he's probably battling those giant golden orb spiders they have up there!

Spent a coupla weeks in Brissy rubbing down Konrad (under direction of the master) .
Now painted back to original Horizon Bleu but no pics yet.
A newly painted car with no windows, upholstery, bumper or trim is (like a new born baby) not a pretty sight.
Those who have witnessed a birth will understand.
Lots of promise but, at the moment..............only a mother could love it.
Pictures will follow once " baby" is cleaned and prepared for "viewing".

Heres Phil sanding away the primer and wondering why i just dont use a disc grinder to do it...(Phillistine)
IMG_0118.JPG

IMG_0119.JPG

First lot of sanding revealed a lot of waviness, high and low spots too ..
IMG_0117.JPG

OK,so after a lot filling, shrinking and fixing small dents the colour and clear were applied..
IMG_0121.JPG

I have started Flatting it back with #2000 wet and dry,to be followed with #3000.

I have sorted some of the flaws in the paint but it's most all polished up now . Now the fun part starts with hunting expeditions for trim clips on the interweb etc .

Nice stuff Ron!

I bought a box with an assortment of new Mercedes clips a while ago.

Send me pics of what you need and I might be able to help you with some.

Hey Ron,
Don't worry about "clips" too much. A tek screw will do the job just as well. Or maybe not.

I have been pretty busy on the car for the last two weeks ,got o0dds and ends painted such as the hub caps and installed the door rubbers and almost finished fitting up the rear doors.
The fuel tank has been rebuilt, and a kjet pump fitted, a fuel pump cover has been found and repaired and I'm just in the process of finding some poper 15 mm fuel resistant hose to hook all that up.

I Was going to sort out a problem with the starter not being connected properly today but there's a switch missing and i don't have any spares here.
The arrow is pointing at the roller switch required . The wiring has been hacked into by someone to try and get it to turn over i guess but it needs this switch for safety sake.

ha ha , i think actually, the inhibitor switch packed it in some time in the past , so it was disconnected and the two leads joined together. When Phil and his mate with the axe and 2lb hammer tried to turn it over they cut into the loom to the solenoid and hot wired it to a battery .I've got a feeling it will require me to pull the loom out and clean it up a bit. A lot the odds and ends under the bonnet are dirty but in good nick .
