190e 2.3 16v - Recommend a mechanic?

Post by stopfd » Thu 22 Nov, 2012 11:40 am

G'day all,

Noticed in the last week an oil patch appear on the drive, until it's on a ramp I'm not sure where it's specifically coming from. Looking for any recommendations for good repairers who have specific experience with the Cosworth in Melbourne?

Cheers

Honestly, I do not know any MB mechanics in Melbourne that know the 16v engines very well. Having said that, there are a couple of good MB independents who could do work.

However, if you take the drip tray off, you'll see where it's coming from if you cannot see from the top. usually rocker cover gasket or front timing cover. unlikely to be a front or rear main seal unless it's been abused.

also check the PCV hose from the rocker cover to the inlet manifold and all the associated hoses IAC etc. be careful, they can be brittle and will bring problems if they crack or split.

Thanks for your posts guys, I'm based in the Bayside area. The car has always had MB servicing all it's life but it's always good to have a good independent available as well. So if you know of any good mechanical repairers from previous experience or recommendations from others then please let me know, thanks again.

Call Glenstar motors in Dromana. (03) 5981 9350
Good reputation and if he doesn't know 2.3 16v's he may know who.

Ammstar in Alphington probably have the know how but they are a little bit expensive.

Prestige motors (Geoff) in Burwood road Hawthorn may also be au fait with your car - 98184555
