190 2.5 16v

Post by chris » Sat 27 Nov, 2010 10:46 pm

For those of you that are interested I picked up quite a good LHD 2.5 16v from Japan which I am converting to a tarmac rally car EVO 2 Replica.Went through the process of doing this with a 2.3 16v several years ago and got some quite good results in Targa Tasmania.I must be a glutton for punishment going through the process again.I can keep you posted on the progress if anyone is interested. In the meantime have many parts for sale ie bodykit parts interior parts original whels etc.I have already sold the rear wing and the door linings but if interested in any other bits let me know and will sell for any reasonable offers. Will also put an add in parts for sale

Would you happen to have this particular grommet in good condition?

I'm really interested.

I would love to make a tarmac/track car for some events, by either making an AMG Mampe SLC replica or, after being taken for a ride in Joes Cosworth, putting together an EVO replica. For the cash the Japanese/UK auction sites seem rather cheap compared to what you find for sale over here, but as far as the true costs of importing goes I suppose it gets close. I've seen the odd 2.6 with a manual gearbox as an option as well.

How far do you plan to go in your preparation with HP, roll cage and reducing weight?

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew Thanks for your interest.I went through the process in the 90s with a 2.3 16 v and raced in Targa Tas with some very good results over a 6 year period.I bought this car the 2.5 16v from Japan via NZ very cheaply and is LHD and auto.I have a manual gearbox on the way from Germany. The roll cage has been welded in and am presently stripping it out inside and my first priority is weight reduction because that is very cheap horsepower approx 10 hp to each 100 kilos you loose.I probably will leave the engine fairly standard except do some work on the breathing etc as I feel that 200 hp approx will be ample for me after being out of the sport now for 10 years. If I go ok I will concentrate on more hp etc next year.I visited a guy in Germany called Thorsten Stadler who is an expert on these and has a business build 16v for racing etc He is supplying the gearbox EVO 2 bodykit and afew other things. My next project is building the 450 SLC replica like you if I ever get the time. There is someone in Europe that can build you a replica or supply parts wihich you probably know about Cheers Chris

Some interesting information :smilebox: :
only 8 (eight!) 2.5-16 have been officially sold in New Zealand (dealer code #919 in data-card) and no one in Australia (dealer code #901).

I currently have in storage (+4yrs now in NZ) a 2.3-16V cosworth, 5 spd manual, which i am planning on turning into a targa rally car in the future and would be intested in finding out where to find a 2.5 - 16V motors preferable recon.

I understand one of those 8 NZ sold 2.5 - 16V was parted out several years back after an accident
