You Know What I Really Hate?.............

Post by KimB » Sun 29 Nov, 2015 10:36 am

I thought I would start this topic to allow Ozbenzers to let a little steam off about the absurdities in life!
Its just for fun! Not for political, racial, or extremist ranting.

I was peeling an orange this morning and one of those little fruit stickers stuck to my finger. I kept trying to flick it off and the more I tried the more it stuck! The more it stuck the more annoyed I got. :wall:

This has happened innumerable times with apples, mandarins etc etc.
Why does every piece of fruit have to have its own little sticker?

So there's my intro "hate"......fruit stickers! :boxing:

• Drivers who insist on overtaking whilst I'm reverse parking.
• Drivers who don't move to middle of intersection when waiting to turn right (except where there's a red arrow showing).
• Drivers who park too close, or manage to use two parking places when they could have easily used one.
• Drivers on mobile phones.

HATE is such a terrible word.
Perhaps what Kim meant to say was "You Know What Really Annoys Me"

At nearly 67 yo there are many, many things which annoy me. Far too many to list here but yesterday I saw a farmer on Landline who said that he didn't believe in Global Warming because he hadn't noticed any change over the past 5 years. In the event that the change of 1% increase has taken place since the start of the Industrial Revolution one would hardly expect to notice a change in 5 years.

So there's my intro "hate"......fruit stickers!
Don't get me started on fruit stickers. Previous owner of my van would stick them to the inside of the van when he peeled them off. The amount of time I spent removing stickers from the dash, headlining, interior sheetmetal, windscreen (and even some on the outside of the door) ... and then all the extra time with metho and a rag to remove the sticky crap.

Maybe that's why I got it so cheap - everyone else who had gone to inspect the van saw the fruit stickers and was like:

I think there is a missed marketing opportunity - stickerless fruit! Write it on the box, write it on the shelf - I know which fruit i would choose and lots of other people. Who can remember the brand of the last sticker they pulled of and did you look for that last time you shopped? I reckon there is more to be gained by leaving the sticker off than any effect of it on there. We actually buy all our fruit from a local wholesaler who sells to public also and they have lots of local stickerless fruit!

The sticker is the id of the product, and where it came from. Fruit with stickers on the item comes under the umbrella of "first grade", plus there is also export grade.

If you dont have the sticker on the fruit but on a box then it can be easy mixed. Second and third grade fruit mixed with first grade, all with a first grade price. Same with country of origin, GMO etc, all easily mixed.

the labels are there for a reason unless we all the like fruit from China fertilised with human faeces. Mmmmm...so many flavours
Brad.

Thanks for that - at least that makes sense - still without that knowledge I always go for the stickerless one. And i hope that doesn't mean that soon grapes will have every one of them stickered! Also makes sense because that wholesaler does sell second grade fruit - he has these locally grown pink lady apples that are seconds because they are too big! Apparently a specification and if it doesn't fit supermarket spec then chuck it. Absolutely beautiful apples and cheap! But in general we all like the cheap prices of supermarkets and to do that they need a formula, so not knocking that - but thanks for the info.

What really annoys me is the dirt from my hand (or elsewhere) that accumulates underneath my wireless mouse. :boohoo:

Luckily an optical mouse does not stop working with accumulated crap on the ball (like on the non-optical mice), but still.....

Every morning I rub my mouse on a clean A4 sheet to remove yesterday's buildup....

People who sit in the right hand lane 10 kays under the speed limit.
People who don't give way at roundabouts.
People who see an old car coming and cut it off to get in front (all old cars are slow you know).
Just general deterioration of driving skills.

Touch screens in cars - you must look press and hold, push buttons are better just reach over and press without looking.
And this leads on to bad ergonomics in modern cars, I had the privilege of borrowing a brand new Hilux from work for a couple of days, big improvement over the old in many ways but ergonomics were woeful, air con controls almost invisible under the dash just to name one problem.
And my last hate - all the rubbish they put in modern cars that I don't want, why should I pay for this when I don't want or need it.
Touch screen, rear view camera, auto headlights, bluetooth, stability control (no it is not a safety improvement by the time it reacts you have already had the accident), auto climate control, etc.
Maybe I am just a grumpy old man.
Why don't they just start making the W114 or W123 again? Everything you need in a car.

Lance Smart

The more i learn about OZ, the more i´m convinced that it doesn´t make any sense to emigrate from the EU in order to escape absurd regulations, orders and directives. Is there a worldwide lunacy?
I don´t worry about apples, because i have some apple orchards on my own. I only cultivate old, lokal (and stickerless!) sorts. Human faeces used as fertilizers? Disgusting, really, but that´s a common practice not only in China.
But have you already heard about extracts obtained from chinese hair to be added to dough of bread as an aid in the baking process? There are things you wouldn´t even dream of in your wildest dreams. It´s quite easy to bake your own bread without all these disgusting additives.
Do you enjoy a glass of champagne sometimes? With my own eyes i have seen vineyards in the Champagne (region in France where the famous "Champagne" is producded). There they used shreddered rubbish as a ferilizer or mulch. Bon appétit, mes amis les francais! My selfmade cider is pure and genuine. I don´t need no champagne!

What i really hate...

... is changing headlight bulbs on modern cars.
... are all these goddamn plastic parts that will crack once you try to remove them. (Car designers should be punished to do such work every day twice!)
... is the widespread practice of installation of predetermined breaking functions in modern technical products!

My advice: Hate is a bad feeling. Hate doesn´t solve any problems. Learn to accept things you cannot change or better: Find your own solutions. Don´t worry, be happy!

I thought of another on the way home last night, cars with vacuum height adjust headlights that bob around once the vac is gone ...... oh right, that's us! There are a lot of cars apart from benzes that do that now. Well potentially, mine went on the560 and you could see the lights bob up and down as you drove and must have driven others nuts. But it happens a lot and not that hard to fix. But like you say, what you can change... so i have been known to just pull over and get behind them...... but if i was in America i could get out my automatic handgun and pepper the front of the car with bullets which would then require them to fix it, but without that ability to change the situation im happy to just pull over!

Another pet peeve of mine is getting tailgated. Especially when hardly moving in a queue to get out of Jandakot Industrial estate.

Why do you need to stop your car a few inches away from mine, every time we move a few feet? Scared someone will jump in between us?

Sometimes I see them texting on their phone while in the queue, and I try to trick them by pulling the handbrake so my brake lights don't come on.

I don't need to see the bird poo on your bonnet, keep some distance!!!
