I post a lot on the Benzworld W126 Forum due to its high activity/input from a hardcore dedicated bunch of guys from around the globe that keep it interesting for me.
However i thought it worthy to share this amazing story here of a hardcore W126 enthusiast who likes to take things way outside the box into the world of extreme modifications for racing.
Majority of the work is completed by himself in-house including all the WB panel work which he made the flairs himself.
Introducing Tim La Trobe - Owner of "Service European Ltd" based in Manukau NZ that is a dedicated European Car Service Workshop that has been operating for many years.
http://www.serviceeuropean.co.nz
Tim has owned his W126 Coupe for many years as a road car but that all changed in the last 9 yrs when he went club racing with it in the Muscle Car division in 2006
http://www.northernmusclecars.co.nz/tim-la-trobe.html

The 1981 500 SEC coupe has been through many stages of variations as it morphed-
From standard body to widebody which Tim fabricated all the panels himself and completed the conversion himself
From the original 5litre M117 engine
To a M119-970 open deck 5litre engine with a 5 speed R154 Supra box
That engine was modified with a custom made 4 x throttle body intake system for better breathing and custom extractors
Adjustable Coilover suspension
Brembo Brakes all round
Rack & Pinion Steering swapped in

Then things started to really hot up-
https://www.facebook.com/tim.latrobe.3/ ... =2&theater
A highly modified Hybrid M119-960 block was bored out to 102mm and a M117 crank and M117 conrods swapped in with a set of Wiseco custom forged pistons dropped in.
Custom billet high lift cams - heads needing clearance to enable the big cams to rotate.
Heads ported & flowed to 751hp @ 500thou lift
Block oil galleries enlarged to increase flow
Dry sump
An amazing custom exhaust "that is just off this planet" was fabricated up by Tim himself to get the now 6.3litre engine breathing
Individual coils to fire for each cylinder
Lynx ECU
Full custom Intake with individual side draft runners contained in a large custom made Plenum chamber fronted by a single 102mm Throttle body that is fed by a large custom rammed-air intake over the radiator.
Custom built rims
Racing Pedal Box added
Etc Etc
Tim stopped racing some 4 yrs ago and pulled the engine/trans as he got sidetracked with house renovations and building his own home garage where he could separate his own racing hobbies from his workshop business and have the best of both worlds independent of each other.
Plus he was in the midst of building up a 190e track warrior and was going to use this same engine in that car and it was fitted.
Wind forward to the last 3-4 months and Tim had a yearning to get back in the SEC coupe and go muscle car racing again.
So the engine was swapped back into the coupe. Brakes were swapped back in from the 190e etc etc and the rest is history
He has just hit the track again last weekend for some testing and tuning and some dialing in

Tim Over in NZ is starting to get somewhere dialing in the SEC and ironing out the bugs (gearbox now apart due to a popped cir-clip -see pics below) and getting used to the pedal box install, but he is getting there and shooting to be be ready for the next race round 17th October at Pukekohe track
I just luv the sound of that 6.3litre M119 behind a manual box

Tim La Trobe over in NZ has been busy since he sourced another block for his M119 engine and just finished installing it in his W126 SEC track racer.
It's a M119-970 block bored with Darton liners installed and raised the compression to 11:7 (from 9:9 to 1 in the old block)
Dropped the bore to 100 as the old liners may have been a bit thin in the previous 102mm bored block (which cracked a liner)
Tim is also sure there's a fair bit more power there waiting to be found!! Especially in valve timing and exhaust
But he is just happy to have this much and being able to drive it and will try for a test day in the next few weeks as have the first race round on the 3rd of Sept at Hampton downs in NZ

His power result has gone up with the initial tuning on one of those dyno's that bolt up direct to the rear hubs to eliminate tire slippage.
Remember this SEC is running a manual gearbox (so no Auto Trans calculations)

"Very impressive" results for a naturally aspirated M119 engine showing its true potential for a 25yr old engine design. Its all about allowing the engine to breathe.
700hp at the engine would have to be the most ever seen out of one of these M119 engines in N/A form

Be great to see the beast back out on the track fresh with a new engine - awesome sound
