Changing gears without key

Post by celine240 » Sat 14 Nov, 2015 11:47 am

Hi, I have a 2004 clk 240 and was wondering is anyone knew if it was possible to change the gears without having to have the key/battery hooked up?

With my '98 and my wife's '99 C class it is not possible to remove key unless the transmission is in "P".
We cannot move the selector from "P" unless the key is in the ignition and the foot is on the brake.

A good safety feature.
The car has been designed to stop idiots selecting gear when the brake is not applied.

I hope this helps,
Tony

Is there a slot or button near the trans selector you can push in to release the shifter? I know a lot of jap cars that have this lockout feature have a way to override it.

Some cars have a pushbutton, some have a plug that you can remove and then insert a screwdriver to release and some have a slot where you can just put the ignition key in:

Also just found these images online, might be a similar arrengement for your car? This looks like it is out of the owners handbook so there might be something in there as well?
