Electronic Ignition Key

Post by Jelfes » Thu 17 Nov, 2011 12:04 pm

My friends 2000 CLK320 electronic ignition key (FOB) has stopped working and he can only now use his spare key. Now in fear that if he loses or damages the spare he to the local Mercedes Stealership and they quoted $580 to supply and program a new key.

Does anyone know where in Sydney he can get a get a new key programed or is there a way he can self program it if he purchases a new one him self?

Do you know in what way it has stopped working - i.e. will it still remote open the car doors? or start the car?

Have you checked the battery in the key yet that would be the first thing. I think it is a CR3023 however it's stamped on the back of the battery when you remove it. I have also read somewhere on the web most likly in BenzWorld how to reprogram the keys or a new key.
Regards,
Jock

The remote will unlock the doors no problem but will not turn in the ignition barrel. The spare fob will turn in the ignition barrel no problem.

The key must have a fault in it. Its passive which means it will work in the ignition even if the batteries are missing.
I went through all this a couple of years ago and ended up buying a new one from the stealership - no choice really.
There was also a scam going on in ebay where people were selling "blank" keys saying you could code it to your car - not true for the W208, not sure about the W209.

Just slightly of the topic.

My remote control key case has a few cracks through wear and tear, went to the MB stealership and said that the case cannot be ordered you will have to order a whole new remote which will cost $590

I went on to Ebay and one can order the case for around $30 from China ,and all one has to do is replace the insides to the new case.
