Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Post Pictures of your car here!
Don't forget to include details such as year, colour etc.
If your car has a story, for example; how you came across it, - put it in here with the pictures. It's always nice to read someone else's experiences.
If you've done any modifications / improvments, Here's the place to show them off - Post lots of pics!
It's not a bad idea to revisit your post every now and then, to make sure your pictures are still up. We'd also like to encourage those who do post a Project car, and supply us with updates, to come back to your original post and edit it, rather than make a new post each time, by replying. It will help keep all your pictures and progress in one spot!
It also makes your post MUCH easier to view.
If you're unsure on how to upload pictures, go to the posting tutorial on the main board and try the test posting page, Don't forget to sign yourself up for a free account on imageshack / photobucket etc.. if you haven't already.
Show us ya Pics! :)

WOW, they are nice Paulo!
Here is my old girl. Dad and I found it years ago under a mates grandfathers house. He didn't want it anymore so we chucked a battery in her and drove it home.
She's a 1975 230.6, Auto.
Everything works, even the air! Dad had it re-painted about 7 years ago in the original colour. He serviced it regularly until he retired it, bought a new car and the 300SE moved down to his spare (it's a beauty too, I got my hand up for that one as well when he's finished with it)
I have had the carbies re-built, just done up the brakes, removed the air cleaner and had it sandblasted and powdercoated satin black - looks new, it has a nice stereo with ipod, lovely tailored sheepskins, and I am just waiting on a Crane electronic ignition that goes in the original distributor. Been waiting about 5 weeks now but they are supposed to be awesome. Just lowered it and put some wheels on but still have all original parts to return to original condition if required. It's just a weekend cruiser for me not daily transport and I love it.
Wonder if I'd be welcome at any MB cruises with those wheels...........

I've changed it to a link so we don't have hordes of dialup users throwing molitovs at John's shop :)

My 1975 W115 230.4
I saw it parked outside MB spares last year - I was there for an unrelated issue with my W123. I quickly relalised that this is a very nice W115, one of the best that I have seen so far. It was a customer's car but I asked Chris (the service manager) if it was for sale. He said that most likely yes, as the owner just discovered that the car needed a head gasket replacement. I called the owner and the rest is history :) I bought the car and had it stored for about six months. Then I had the engine fixed and I have since done a bit over 5k km in it. Recently I had a small accident (headlight, bumper and some mudguard repair are needed), so it's now in the garage again until it's all sorted (the car is insured with Shannons - it's the first time I will make a claim, let's see how they go).
cheers

Here's my pride and joy......
It's a 1974 280e, of which I am the second owner, with factory air con (working), factory tint, heated rear window, came with an old two speaker (front and back) Blaupunkt AM radio (since upgraded to Blaupunkt CD player). I had a reconditioned engine fitted not long ago, and I pulled the injection and ignition systems apart and rebuilt/renewed them about 6 months ago. Still trying to get it perfect, getting closer by the day....
Wheels are 6.5" (I bought them three years ago), shod with Michelin XM1 215/65s.

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Here is my 1970 250CE, nearly back on the road. Needs exhaust fix. Engine was replaced with a 280 Carb version out of a 108. I could not get the 250CE head repaired and no other available.
Car is a 4 speed manual, and had all the usual rust removed and was resprayed, interior was cleaned.
Milage was around 50000 Miles when purchased, but the car had a hard live and started its live in the NT, then went to PNG and returned to Townsville in the late 1986 then was parked/retired in a shed in Toowoomba. Purchased it in 1998 and started its new live.

My '73 230 purchased as a project. Currently own E30 BMW, have always liked the w114/115 Merc.
Minimal rust, clean almost immac. interior (bar dash). Needs something done to carby....Zenith ugh. Need to get my cash up (uni student) to get the old beast back on the road, can't wait.

My Mercedes-Benz 1969 250C Coupe
I've only owned it for 3 weeks. Some small niggling engine problems but alltogether I am very happy with the car. Wish I had bought a MB two cars and 5 years ago, chances are I would still have it.....

Hi Des,
Pretty much everything is original except for the radio and immobiliser.
It even came with the original dealer delivery docket from 1969! Ex demo model sold at Farley Motors in Fortitude Valley Brisbane.

G'Day Fella's,
Finally got around to posting some shots here..
Both are '75 W114 280's, obviously the yellow one (Big Bird) is an 'E' and the Burgundy/Red is a 'CE'..
The CE still requires a fair bit of work to get her up to speed, but should be quite a nice example when I get finished with her.. The 'E' is actually in quite good nick, and is my daily driver at the moment. I originally picked her up so I could take my 'other' (little '67 Triumph Spitfire Mk3) car off the road for a spruce up as she was celebrating her 40th Bday, however got bitten by the Benz Bug.. the CE a lthen followed a little later on, purchased from a forum member in Sydney, and drove her all the way home... Great fun!!
Enjoy!!

I like Big Bird!!!
I don't know why, they really aren't graceful like a w111 coupe or anything, but it makes me happy when I look at him!! Cool!

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Thanks, yes it is nice, needs a few things fixing, but nothing major, my mechanic commented that it appears the engine was reconditioned not that long ago. Motor seems to pull quite well. Its not a V8 but you know what I mean.JoeB wrote:Nice, with a capital N

Picked it up locally here in a car yard, had been there for a while.
Over the next few months will fix most of the issues, things like needs a boot seal, speedometer doesn't tick over the miles, indicators don't stay on, you have to use the special MB bolt to open the door.

Just cleaned up a bit of rust between firewall and inner guard- this seems to be quite a common problem on these cars when drain holes become blocked .Apart from that very clean & unmolested condition.
The car has been sitting for a couple of years .

1973 280E, nice and straight, a few grey spots that need repainting from where I had to cut out some rust but otherwise it's a gem. I call it "The Diplomat."
Note: I've since pulled off the grilles.

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
I've been snooping the forums for a while now, however have recently acquired a benz, so will be a little more active round these parts!
So, presenting Penelope - My 1974 230.4
She's a work in progress as I am teaching my son to work on cars.
We've been rebuilding the interior, building a custom console, installing a high-end sound system, making new carpets.
She's lowered about 6" in the rear & still has plenty of suspension travel! Standard height at the front, however we have a complete FBSS airbag kit to install a little bit later down the track (I realise that may not appeal to the majority of OZBENZ members - but hey each to their own).
She has some rust in the usual places that need to be attended to, however the mechanicals are really strong as the drivetrain was freshened up at 40,000ks ago & she has a fresh meaty exhaust.
Being a 4cyl she's a little S-L-O-W, but perfect for cruising!
Will keep the forum updated as she progresses.

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Hello Fellow Merc drivers (with great taste),
Myself (Rick) and my father (Denis) are currently maintaining a one of a kind 1974 280E that has a yellow exterior and blue interior apparently produced especially for Laney Mercedes. I had a 1979 280E prior to this car but it was lost in an accident. I enjoy classic cars and will hopefully keep this car until I can afford my 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 (my dream car). The car is in great condition although there are minor things that we must fix to perfect the master piece of automobity that it is. I am 18 and have just finished high school wishing to proceed to further education in the area of business and marketing as I find a fasination within these subjects. My father is 39 and runs his own successful garden maintenance business and we share this car as our hobby.
This was taken from the bloke who owned it prior to us so since he put us onto this community i have posted it for him to remember the days he spent polishing!
This is our baby at home,
Denis here (Dad) this is a loverly car to drive and it give us hours of pleasure tinkering with and she is a beauty!

Welcome gentlemen! :D
Must be a 70's thing but I love the look of your car. I've got a yellow W123, but it's got a much more sensible cream interior.

Your '74 yellow 280E is a beauty. I've got a 123 in yellow (slowly fading) with a cream interior. Probably very much like yours TonyT!

Hey Topcat, Dennis,
Hope you are in the Perth area, we can go cruising together!! Interestingly, I spotted another last weekend. I actually thought it was mine with the son driving it.. when I (finally) caught up with it I realised it was a 200. Never seen a 114/115 200 before..
Cheers,
BustedNut
She looks magnificent.. Have to say that as she's an exact replica of mine ('cept for the blue interior!!).. See Star Shots page one.topcat wrote:Myself (Rick) and my father (Denis) are currently maintaining a one of a kind 1974 280E that has a yellow exterior and blue interior apparently produced especially for Laney Mercedes. Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Hello everyone,
After a false start, (very rusty W123 coupe), I'm once again a benz owner. This little black monster followed me home last night, and I just had to give it a home. At the moment, it's a bit of a mystery machine, however it was originally a butter yellow, has been sprayed matt black, then gloss enamel (with spray cans).
The prevcious owner bought it from ebay, transported it from Melbourne to Perth, and put it over the pits here in WA. That was about three years ago, and since then it has lived in Wembley. If anyone knows the car, and can shed some light on it, I'd love to hear from you.
Mechanically it seems OK: M110 has minimal leaks/smoke and pulls very strongly. It does have a loud ticking noise coming from the cam cover though, so that may be one of the first jobs to diagnose! Auto shifts well, handling is pleasant and smooth apart from the steering having excessive slop, giving it a tendancy to wander. It certainly keeps your attention, and this fault will be THE first thing that gets fixed.
Am looking forward to exploring the forums, and enjoying my new toy!
Cheers all,
Nickmac

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
g'day all,
i have just joined the MB club with the purchase of a lovingly restored 1972 w115 220/8 :D i fell in love with the style and character of the w115 after seeing one near my work. Then this one appeared on e-bay and was located in a neighbouring suburb .........i figured it was meant to be! she is a dream to drive, but a little more power would make her perfect. Does anyone have ideas on the simplest ways to squeeze a bit more power out of these lovely cars. thanks in advance

Wow!, your car looks absolutely delightful in black. pretty rare colour. Most in Aus are white. I have white 230.6, will have to post some photos soon as well

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Finally got round to post a few shots of "Gertrud" our 1973 W114 230.6. She's in fine condition, white with olive green MB Tex interior, a few cosmetic blemished, but no rust. That's the reason I snapped her up as so many w114's are rusted badly. (I know as I'm wrecking a once promising looking 250CE resto project ).
Anyway, I was looking interstate for a nice example, when I by chance found this one in Virginia approx 20 minutes down the Stuart Hwy from Darwin. The car originally is from Victoria, where it has been in storage for a number of years. Then the NT guy picked her up as a towing vehicle transporting a Morris Minor up to Darwin. The car has done the 4000k's without problems.
Previous owner wasn't into MB's hence it was for sale.
I've fixed some minor oil leaks and replaced front axle bushes for rego. Over the wet season front brakes seized, but I've revised calipers. Recently had (have?) some carbi problems, but hope I've fixed it (see other post on this forum).
Shots below were taken yesterday when I took it for a test drive around beautiful Darwin (gosh it's great this time of year! :D ) near Fanny Bay foreshore and CBD Wharf multi million dollar development project...

Love it!
the colour is really nice, and i think these cars look great when customized tastefully and elegantly (just like this)
i am doing something vaguely similar to my 69' 220 - without the interior rebuild.. i will post photos soon.
I would love to see some more photos of Penelope if you have them

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Hello there,
time to introduce myself. You might have seen my Crayford-related posting already. Well, there are more Strichacht in the barn, which is located in the west of germany.
This is my 200/8, modified by its first and only former owner for representative purposes. This first owner used to be the brother of my hometowns archbishop and took the car to ferry him to the cathedral each sunday morning for his service. As I grew up in the house next to him, I used to witness this procedure in the mid-70s. Dark red with cognac interior. Built in 1971. Stunning condition inside and out, unrestored, laid up for 15+ years. As new. Pictured here on the occasion of a friends wedding. Currently 110.000 kilometers on the odometer.
This is one of two remaining Crayford conversions on the /8 chassis, bought from its sixth or seventh owner in britain two years ago. The car actually drives, but thats all. Original blue 920 with red leather interior. Driven to death in british weather. Built in 1972 with a 220D engine.
This is the second of two remaining Crayford conversions on the /8 chassis. This one not only drives but is roadworthy (in britain, that is, not in germany). We actually drove it from Britain, where I bought it from Rory, its second owner, a few months ago. Original green 860 with a bambus MB-Tex interior. One of the very first "Mark II" cars (the second series), built in August 1973 with a 250 engine. Most interesting car. Interior in extremely good condition, all the Crayford parts are present. Approximately 100.000 miles on the odometer.
The 1975 240D has been in my possession for more than ten years and is my pride and joy. Bought from its "little old lady" owner in 1998, the car is in fabulous original condition. She used to travel all of europe with it. Originally delivered by MB to a german diplomat in jugoslavia, it is equipped with heavy-duty springs, undershields, blue tinted glass and climate control. 903 blue with blue interior. Not spotless but very much loved and lived in. Now with 125.000 kilometers under its wheels, 20.000 of them driven by me, mostly on journeys to italy...
Then there is a W201 190D (daily driver), W124 E200T with very few kilometers (next daily driver), a W123 230E (currently rebuilt to become a rallye car for the british LE JOG) and a very very early W116 280SE on its way from its italian owner to be added to my collection.
Yours, Christian

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
Finally got around to getting pictures. This my 280CE bought last year in a unfinished state. It has had a couple of owners on this forum and has travelled accross the country.
I have installed new roof lining, the interior, new carpets, and done some miscellaneous mechanical work.
It was christened by my wife as "Rags", as in Riches to Rags, not Rags to Riches.

OK here she be...
This is the wife's 280E, It was her fathers and she loves it dearly, here it tis moved into the getting fixed position in the shed... here's the interior, N.B the five speed manual......: the 280E's been a non go-er for 6 years, but worth saving I think, at least if I do all the work myself. I got my v12 daimler running after 5 years sitting and from what i've seen, the Merc is a lot easier...
Luckily my wife loves old cars as much as i do so we're selling our turbo awd jap cars and going classic.
well.....we think it makes sense.
Oh, she's just purchased a 1987 420 sel, couldn't wait for me to get the 280E done.
I'm loving it!

Re: Star Shots! - Show us your Ride
I'm new to the board, and Mercedes in general! I recently purchased a '69 250/8, and soon-after joined this forum to learn.
Looking forward to getting to know the car and people on this forum.

why did you pull them off ? I like them,Welshy wrote:
1973 280E, nice and straight, a few grey spots that need repainting from where I had to cut out some rust but otherwise it's a gem. I call it "The Diplomat."
Note: I've since pulled off the grilles.
